When the boss says it? The sack! How quickly the distancing and covering of own backsides takes place when someone talks unwisely or steps out of line.

I remember in my own workplace once when we were told emphatically that 'no redundancies will be made' at an economic downturn of fortunes, it was a sure sign that they would, and indeed they were made.

It's a popular phrase in British politics.

In British politics, it means that someone has full confidence in a government minister right up until the point where the minister is under enough pressure and scrutiny from other parties and the media that the minister in question resigns.

It then comes across that the minister who has resigned in such a circumstance has little confidence in themselves?

Frankly I've found that if it's said in politics (I know you said "boss") it means nothing at all. A politician says "I am confident that.... [whatever]" it's just a way to "calm the beast" if people are getting restless about some issue. Maybe it's the same for a boss... "I have full confidence that you'll be able to work a 12 hour day six days a week and never complain about it." Manipulation.

You have full confidence I will do the right thing....what? Are you nuts? I might wind up doing the right thing, but I assure you it will be quite by accident. More likely I will mess things up so bad you'll have to shut down the company and liquidate your assets. Hey but you have full confidence...tell that to your stockholders hahaha. I'm fired you say? C'mere let me give you a hug.

:ROFLMAO:😂🤭 Oh Judy! 😁 I must say that sums it up pretty well. @Judycat

Telling someone in the workplace that “they have full confidence in you“ often means that your workload is about to be dramatically increased, that your job is about to be radically changed, or that you are about to be thrown to the wolves as a scapegoat… 😩
