I think it's most likely he wanted my attention for some reason, but that seems like a pretty demeaning way to get it - clapping at someone....

You had me reeled-in hook, line and sinker, Deb, right up to the part where the mentioned the person was clapping their "hand", and that's when I knew you were just pulling our legs!

Never met a person that can clap one hand.

All jokes aside, I would say he or she is wingy, had mistaken you for someone they thought they knew, and their outstretched arms along with the clapping was representative of them happy to see you and looking for a hug, or they were a member of this forum and just wanted to get a rise out of you so you'd post about it.
