What Dollar General Doesn’t Want You To Know

Of course, assuming it's still this way, the whole pricing thing in the US is made far more difficult by the posted prices not really being the true cost due to tax. In the US, my experience was that the prices shown were without local sales tax, so the actual price was always more than shown. This makes it more difficult to track price differences.

In the civilized world ( :) ) the tax is included in the shelf price.

I've been in the dollar store near me twice. Once, when I needed to send a package by FedEx, it was the closest location to do so, and another time to see if they had any decent pot holders. They didn't. The place was dirty and a crowded, disorganized mess, with stuff laying in the isles and falling off shelves. I'm sure not all dollar stores are like that, but this one was.

I buy few things at the dollar type stores, including 99 cent stores. I have drinking glasses made in USA that were probably seconds but they are heavy and I really like them. Cheap scissors so I don't use my good fabric scissors on paper and to open packages. Tape, things like that but it's not my go to for sure. I do a look around if I'm in there.

I hear Joann's crafts is going out of business? There staffing is terrible and they are really bad with their fabric cuts. The store sucks.
I couldn't agree more about Joann's. They're not only understaffed; the few workers that are there are also surly. The fabric cuts are the worst I've ever seen.

On the video, a customer complains that the price on the shelf is not the price at the register. Welcome to Walmart. That is Walmart's official statement in court- the price at the register is the selling price, not what's on the shelf price. If you don't notice the difference -tough.
All these dollar stores are franchises , usually owned by doctors, and others, as investments, and don't managed them themselves. It reminds me of all the video tape stores in the 70s, that were on every corner and in every mall. Same types invested in tapes and a stoner to stand at the register.

Heard on the news that dollar general stores were going to be closing a lot of stores this year. they did not mention dollar tree. We have a great Dollar Tree here and I hope it does not close.

I've pointed out some pricing discrepancies to clerks and the usual explanation is, "We haven't had time to update our inventory." whatever THAT means.
My CVS cheats people all the time like this: one price at shelf, a higher one at checkout. Barely any staff.

Stores like this should have workers working when store is closed in middle of night, instead of stocking and blocking aisles during the day. But then, it would be harder to please customers and not cheat them.

Dollar Tree is part of Family Dollar. They remodeled the Family Dollar in town last year & now they have a few aisles that's a Dollar Tree. The Dollar Tree store next to our Aldis in the next town is very nice.

It seems like most of the Dollar General stores that I've been in seem messy compared to the other dollar stores.

it is a problem every where when you can make a price change in computer in literal seconds ...........and yet a REAL person should be changing the tag/ sign on shelf but in reality there are many missed .... not an excuse ... but i worked in the industry. there was less of this when in the old days a person had to price merchandise.

TOO many IMO rely on the honor system from companies... from government etc..... Do you know who has your back ... you do....
many states have a department whose job is audits of pricing and size/ weights etc..... so of course it is "we do not have enough people throw more money at it....." not the answer ....
be proactive....... stop and question........ take a photo and tell them you will check again..... otherwise it will always be a "mistake" that just happened..... to many only complain after someone else speaks up or have not looked.

Speak to owner as many are franchises .... or highest level of store ........not the disinterested clerk who may have been the person who said why bother.

Most of the Aldis in our area are now using the electronic price tag on the shelves. Makes it nice that it's updated when they update the prices in the computer. It's the only grocery that I've seen this.

In our area, the Dollar General stores are being "upgraded". Many of them also include things like fresh produce, now. Our local DG shut down last Fall for a few days, and now it has a better selecion of goods, and is well maintained and stocked.

Yeah I miss our local supermarket. It closed down over 10 years ago. All people did was complain about it.There was nothing wrong with it, they complain about everything here. Now they've got Dollar General and that's something they deserve. I call it the junk store, but the employees act like it's Fort Knox. Sometimes I have to go there but I'll never be a regular shopper. We are a food desert. It was never like this for most of my life. Don't know what I'll do when I can't drive anymore.

I have 2 Dollar Generals I go to. One in town, and the other on the way to work. Between the 2 Dollar Generals, there is also a Family Dollar. Then there is the Dollar Tree near Walmart. I like a ll 4 stores. They are all clean, and the staff is always friendly. I find this video is very nit picking. I never hear anyone complaining when I am in Dollar Generals, or similar stores. To me it's nothing important. I will continue to shop there since they always have what I am looking for.

My nearest dollar store is within a few miles of my home, sitting a stone’s throw away from a closed local shopping mall whose demise I still grieve. If I don’t shop there, it’s a 15 minute drive to the next town, where I can park a quarter mile away from a Walmart and deal with the teaming human zoo inside.

My dollar store is understaffed, but has friendly employees who are often away from their register. They compensated for understaffing by putting in self-checkouts for a while, but something went wrong, and now I’m told self-checkout may be gone forever.

I don’t buy a boatload of stuff at the dollar store, but it’s good for picking up a few items in a pinch. They’ve expanded and upgraded their food line, and most OTC pharmacy items are available. I’m glad it’s there… 🙂
