What false fears did you have about getting older when you were younger?

OK, I'll bite ....... what is a Shoreditch hipster ?
Shoreditch is an area of London within the London Borough of Hackney, that has gone from being one of the most undesirable slum areas of our Capital City, to becoming a popular and fashionable part of London.

The 21st-century hipster is a subculture (sometimes called hipsterism) that is defined by claims to authenticity and uniqueness yet, ironically, is notably lacking in authenticity and conforms to a collective style. Fashion is one of the major markers of hipster identity.

Shoreditch is the home of hipsterism, the birthplace of a thousand bushy beards, but Shoreditch seems to have outgrown its cool? It's become an urban victim of its own commercial success. And it's not unique to Shoreditch, it's a familiar cycle: A neglected inner city neighbourhood, colonised by artists, a cafe culture flourishes, new businesses move in, it becomes the place to be seen in, then rents go up, and the original inhabitants who gave the place its character are priced out of the area. Does that sound familiar?

What Holly and others, myself included, know of a lost London, is a place that is not seen through rose tinted spectacles, but a place where the people that once lived, worked and played there, really were: "The salt of the earth."

 Shoreditch is an area in London which would now be described as "edgy" (or avant-garde) which is popular with hipsters.

Hipsters are a sub-culture who generally adopted a style (including fashion and music) which was different from the mainstream. When people think of hipsters, they probably think of bearded guys wearing skinny jeans and loafers although the hipster style is influenced by various trends i.e. punk, grunge, hippy and of course 60's. I like their style but like many things, once it becomes popular it loses it's individualism.

Dictionary definition:

"a person who follows the latest trends and fashions, especially those regarded as being outside the cultural mainstream."

I never had any fears. Actually never thought about "getting old". After watching two of the most elegant, women in my life (Grandmother and Mother) grow old, I value maturity. I do not see it as getting old, but the getting of wisdom and enjoying life for as long as you can.

Each decade of my life is a new adventure! No point in fearing the inevitable, embrace it!

I don't remember having any false fears, or fears in general, but I do remember having false hopes, hopes that I will be better than other family members who were retired and had cancer and died (father/grandfather), or who have had diabetes (cousin), or heart ailments. I always told myself "I will never end up like that" because I made it a point to try and stay healthy, but it doesn't always work that way. I read somewhere that as we age, the DNA that holds these illnesses starts manifesting itself, where before it was hidden. Anyone come across that? Can't find the article to share here.
