What Happened To Hank Williams?

"Although Hank Williams never reached the age of 30, he left a long legacy of amazing songs that have been covered by hundreds of artists through the decades following his death".

Did you know:

Forty-two years ago today (Aug. 8, 1975) is a day Hank Williams Jr. would most likely rather forget. It was on that date that the country star suffered a near-fatal accident while climbing Ajax Peak in Beaverhead County, Mont.
While Williams Jr. was hiking up Ajax Peak, the snow beneath him collapsed, causing him to fall about 440 feet. The artist was not initially expected to survive, but he did, and he spent more than two years recovering from the incident. He had numerous skull fractures and had multiple surgeries to repair them; the scars led Williams Jr. to grow a beard and wear sunglasses — a look he’s maintained throughout his career.
Williams Jr. was buoyed by the support of the country music community, including two of the genre’s biggest stars, during his recovery: “June Carter and Johnny Cash were there when I came around,” Williams recalls to USA Today, “and it meant a lot.”
He also had the support of his then-girlfriend and future second wife, Becky White, whom he’d met only one week before the accident.
“Twenty-four hours after admitting we loved each other, I became a monster on a mountainside with most of my face gone,” Williams Jr. tells People magazine.
Williams Jr.’s accident is recounted in a movie about his life, Living Proof: The Hank Williams Jr. Story, which stars The Waltons‘ Richard Thomas as the country singer.
Williams Jr. released an album, Hank Williams Jr. and Friends, in December of 1975; it had been recorded prior to the accident. His next album was One Night Stands, released in 1977.

I have listened to some of the Hank Williams songs and liked them; but I just never cared enough about the sound or style that I could see why he was such a superstar.
Hank Williams Jr. Is most well-known for his rowdy fighting and partying songs, not my style either.
One day, I was listening to the radio, and they were playing a song by someone with an incredible voice, and I loved the song as well as the voice singing it. I could hardly wait to hear the announcer tell us who was singing it, and when it turned out to be Hank Jr., I thought I must have heard wrong.
After that song, called "Queen of My Heart", I discovered that there is another side to Hank, and he sings several ballad-type songs, and I think that he is one of the best singers I have ever heard when he sings like that.
(Sorry, Meanderer, but Hank Sr. still sounds like a whiner to me.....)

I knew that he died in the back of his car, a lonely death, but when I realized he was only 29, I was blown away! He was an innovator, with his songs and music and had many hits, that are still being recorded. I also like the slower side of Hank Jr. , Yvonne!:)

One that I like to listen to, is "The Night Hank Williams Came to Town", by Johnny Cash. It takes us back to the day....

This is a collection of Hank Williams songs that he never recorded...so some of the best musicians of today recorded them to honor Hank.....I love this album.....

I met his son, Hank, Jr., at a party a LONG time ago. I didn't attend his performance downtown, but he ended up at the same small restaurant/bar we were. He's a very personable guy, down to earth. I'm thinking that may be him sitting on the sofa with his dad in the above post.
