What happened to senior discounts?

There aren't many senior discounts around here, none at the places where I shop. Instead of driving, sometimes I'll take the train into the city, the fair for seniors is normally $1.00 on weekdays for most stations.

Yup, I get senior discounts. Bulk Barn is 20% on Wed. and sometimes there are coupons like spend $20 and get a discount.
Shoppers Drug Mart is 20% off regular items on Thur. and I have a points card too.
Thrift Store (Salvation Army) gives discounts to seniors.
Cineplex Odeon (movie theater) gives a senior discount.
There are more but I can't remember them all.

Years ago, in my area, there was a grocery store that had 10% off one day a week for people over 55. I think it was Tuesdays. I used to think to myself that when I turned 55, I wouldn't tell anyone. I would just pay the usual 100%. Then of course, I reached that age and over, and there are no discounts.

I always forget to ask for a senior Discount... WE don't get very much in ways of discounts here anyway. The best one is the free bus pass, but then I never use it, given that I drive everywhere, but I'm happy I have it if ever I cant afford to drive...however the government..since this talk of 15 minute cities have been in talks to remove it. This would be an absolute disaster for older people who no longer drive.. or who live in rural areas.. who can't afford to get to doctors, hospital appointments.. etc...

I get a 1/3 off train travel.. but I have to pay £15 annually to get that 3rd off.. and sometimes like the last 2 years I haven't used the train so I've been out of pocket for that discount

Staely homes, and tourist venues offer senior discounts, but they're very small..on an already overpriced ticket..
Are there any 15 minute cities near you that you know of Hols? Wasn't Oxford planning on that? I've seen a lot ULEZ cameras and seen them being destroyed by a sort of modern day resistance. We don't have anything like that here. Yet. But it will happen if England embraces it.

I haven't gotten a senior discount on anything but I don't ask for them. I'm too young! Ha!:giggle:

yes Oxford is still planning it, they were the first.. then now every town and city in the country has started the prep as I explained previously..

We are not embracing ULEZ cameras at all.. but at some point the govt will not back down, and perhaps will make destroying the cameras an offence punished by long jail sentences which will of course keep the dogs at bay.. and that's of course when the Cameras will then take precedence...and the motorist loses...once London has been conquered in this way it will spread very quickly to the rest of the country..IMO..

Why don't people fight back?

Best senior discount in the USA used to be the $10 lifetime National Parks and Federal Areas Lands Pass. A few year's ago that changed to $80 for a lifetime. Just driving into Yosemite now costs $35 for everyone else.

The other super Senior's discount in this region is the Senior Clipper Card that provides less than half price fares to travel anywhere on public transportation in our region.

My EPIC (Vail Associated) Senior Tahoe Local pass is currently $425 for 3 Tahoe ski resorts, Heavenly, Northstar, and Kirkwood. About $100+ below passes for other adults. Walk-up lift tickets are all well over $100 a day.

well they are, which is why we have no 15 minute cities yet.... but you can't fight the law which causes the destruction of 2/3rd of a road, to make a cycle way.. they don't make a law for that they just do it...before anyone knows it's going to be done, that happened right here where I live...
But you never voted for this right? So your MPs are not representing the will of the people if they move forward with this agenda?

I get a senior discount at the Grand Union on Tuesdays. I don't have to ask for it, I noticed it on my receipt yesterday. Some of the restaurants have one also but I think you have to ask for those.

In Kentucky, residents get a senior discount on fishing licenses. $23 regular, $12 senior.
AARP members get discounts at several places around here including Outback Steakhouse. I also get a discount on my phone service being an AARP member.
