What Happened to Spring?

Since I was a kid, every year the papers & radio announce that spring is here. This is a pretty big deal in a country, such as Canada, where we have snow 6 months of the year. Yet, this year not a word in our local paper nor could I find a notice in any of the web sites. It's all about Cornavirus over & over & over for weeks on end. Maybe no one cares that there is a world beyond Cornavirus. So, I jumped in my car this morning drove out to the country, away from the city, away from all this Cornavirus all day & all night. Yep, the country is still there. Life goes on. The geese are back & soon the other birds will come back too. I love spring & I'm looking forward to getting outside. There is a life beyond toilet paper, wipes & social distancing & I'm really looking forward to it. It's healthier living beyond the perimeter of the city. I suspected this for many years & still believe that this is true. Our local restaurant & pub is still open. I'm going for fried chicken & beer this week.

"snow 6 months of the year"?

It's "the great white north", Hols ;)
what is... Canada, or Santa's house... ?

I thought Canada only had polar bears and black bears , and and everyone lived in an igloo and had penguins for pets , and had huskies to pull the sleds to take you 400 miles to the nearest store that sells everything including oilskins , and those who couldn't afford dogs strapped tennis racquets to their shoes to walk to the nearest hole in the ice to fish... , and weekends are standing under Niagara falls taking selfies?

..you tellin' me I might be a little titchy bit mistaken, Miss Pinky :eek:

Who am I to correct you? ;)

The only way you can tell that spring is here in Central Florida is that the leaves have been falling. Yes, we lose our leaves in the spring. Otherwise, our four seasons are:

Almost Summer

Summer (AKA 90 Days in Hell)

Just Like Summer But a Little Cooler

Almost Summer, Summer, and Just Like Summer But a Little Cooler All Rolled Into One (with a few days of something the Yankees call "You think this is COLD?" thrown in for comic relief and a chance to wear that hoodie that been hanging in the closet for years).

Yes, 6 months of snow. It starts with big flakes at the end of October or beginning of November & we have it until it melts in April. However, sometimes we even have a freak snow in the beginning of May. Hey, most of us are used to it. It's suppose to make us tough. Actually, I don't mind it. I have been in places like Panama, Zanzabar & South India where it is hot, hot, hot 12 months of the year. I prefer Canada anytime considering we have beautiful summers with nearly 20 hours of day light. We really enjoy the outdoors around here; if you live in a small town or out in the country. The 4 seasons are important. I would miss them in the tropics. Couldn't really get used to the heat, humidity & bugs of a tropical country. Then there are the "snowbirds" who leave Canada & head south for the winter; if they got the money but that is a different topic for sure.

Well, for snow 6 months of the year you would need to be living in the upper half of most provinces or you are in the snow belt. I wondered this year where the snow was. Being just 15 min walk from Lake Ontario has made a difference as we have missed most of the snow storms this past season. Our spring is usually cooler than most areas (see note on lake) and just jump right into summer. I hear the birds singing and we have had a few nice days but dammit, I WANT SPRING!

We're wondering what happened to spring. Is this something to do with the "Global warming" ?
While we're waiting to see if we're allowed to leave the house, buy food, breathe etc.. we've got plenty of work to do in the garden. Trouble is that there's a freezing wind blowing and it's horrible to work in. Forecast is for continuing cold well into April. Fantastic!

I'm so jealous of all you getting-snow folks.....we saw a dusting once thru winter and I luv seeing the white stuff much as possible....
oh well there's always hope with next winter ❄☃

well we definitely have spring here ..at least I hope it's here to stay, sadly only our supermarkets, pharmacies and parks remain open..so not many places to enjoy the sun if you have no garden, during the current pandemic. Currently as I type, the news is coming in that all London Paks will close their gates, because people are not observing the social distancing rules.

I live semi rurally... so today for the first time in a week I was able to get out in and around my village, went to our village church which is closed, and I knew that I'd be the only one there, but the church and grounds are in a remote place so I went to just walk around and pray in the grounds .. not on my hands and knees, but to those who lived through plagues in the past, whose gravestones still stand in our church cemetery, and of course to God..I'm just struggling with anxiety lately over all this as I'm sure many of you are ..

I also took some photos of my area just to prove it's spring....

I'll post more on the photo thread later but for now this one I took about 3 hours ago ...

... and the next ones are from my daughter in Spain, very much spring there, where she sent me these pics she took on her land yesterday, for mothers day.. ( although today it's been heavy rain there)

The wild flowers in her meadow

So never fear, Spring is definitely on it's way 🦋🌷

We know it is spring here. The thick green pollen from our Southern Pines is coming down like crazy and coating everything in sight. It doesn't cause the same breathing problems as ragweed, but it gets in your eyes and it takes a pressure washer to get it off the house after the season is over.

Oh, I will take a little snow, but not until the pollen gets cleaned up. Otherwise we have a slimy mess if it gets wet.

Yes, spring is here in South Carolina. Our azaleas are blooming, the ruby throated humming birds are arriving, and I am cleaning crap out of my eyes after my daily walk. In a couple of weeks it will be gorgeous, just in time for the Masters (which isn't going to happen this year) across the river in Augusta, Georgia

Then it will be hot, hot, hot for months!

I know Spring is here, the crows have departed until fall and the robins have moved back.

Now that's a sure sign of spring.
