What have you bought recently?

While cleaning my stove and oven hood last week I pulled off the fan screen. Worked on cleaning it for a couple of minutes. Yuk. The hood is 7 years old and I think I scrubbed it completely once before - we almost never fry anything so it doesn't get a lot of buildup. It's an unpleasant job nevertheless so I wondered about just replacing it.

Turns out Amazon sells a two pack in that size for $13.99. It's soooo worth that price to not have to clean that screen and to have one in reserve! They'll arrive today or tomorrow.
That screen can be put in the dishwasher! Remember this the next time you get a wild hair and decide to scrub it.

I may have bought one or two items today but, I went shopping with a friend and afterwards we had lunch so, it would have been rude not to get a couple of bits :)

My friend attempted to buy the same t-shirts as I bought during the week and she even insisted on going into Boots to take advantage of the offers. Unfortunately, even with the benefit of my own shopping experience, she failed to cut the mustard 🤭 M&S did not have her size in the colours I bought so, we will not look like matching friends next time we meet and, she totally flunked the buy 3 get 1 free offer because, she bought two pricey items and one cheap one and, as everyone knows, it is the cheapest one you get free 🙄

Anyways, as she is a dear friend and I am very fond of her and I appreciate that not everyone is such a smart shopper as myself, I decided not to spoil her joy in getting a bargain by telling her she could have got an even bigger bargain.

I dunno, amateurs 🤷‍♀️

It would have taken a lot of trips through the DW to get the grease out. After pulling the trigger on the new ones I realized I could have filled a big baking pan with very hot water and some Dawn, let it soak, then scrub it, but for $7 who needs the aggravation?

That's what I'd been doing. Giving it a quick swipe from underneath then moving on. It doesn't LOOK yucky, but it feels greasy so it's kinda gross. The grid is woven weirdly so it's hard to clean without parts catching on the sponge/rag and unraveling.

I'd rather pay $7 to put up a new one when it's needed.

Speaking of cleaning, I brought the Murphy's Oil Soap into the house from the RV and will give the kitchen drawer and cabinet faces a good going over later today to erase the fingerprints. Hit one cabinet with it this morning and was reminded how magical that stuff is.
I love the smell of Murphys! Mine is waiting for me under the sink. My cabinets are yearning for it. Soon.

I'll finish the cabinets tomorrow. Had to abort the project yesterday because it was Mothers Day sign painting day meaning I had to swing into snack food prep. Lovely as Murphy's smells, it doesn't enhance the flavor of crudites, hummus and dip!

On another subject entirely - specifically low sodium ingredients:

Sending a belated thank you and shout-out to @CallMeKate for her recommendation of Herb-Ox sodium-free chicken granulated bouillon. I bought a couple of jars in March and am delighted with it. Most bouillons are so salt heavy.

Also a big thanks to @sadie123 who recommended Costco's Kirkland Organic No-salt seasoning. My husband is so hooked on it that I had to put a small shaker of it in the RV!

Oh, I'm so glad that it met your needs, @StarSong ! I've never gone back to regular, even the "low sodium" kinds that aren't really low at all. I'll stick with the 0 sodium. (y) I have used it so much and could never tell a difference.

Yes, "low" sodium products are usually not as low as hoped, but their prices are certainly higher.

DH's BP is well controlled with meds. I don't have high BP and don't want it but salt bloats me. It's generally unhealthy to consume outside of what comes naturally in whole foods, so I try to avoid it.

Almost everything we eat, raw veggies included, has a little sodium in it so I don't worry about getting too little sodium. Most adults need about 1500 mg/day. Heck, I get at least 200 mg just from the almond/soy/oat milk concoction I use in my morning coffees!

I accidentally ordered a shirt-style jacket

I was looking for a light jacket for mum who doesn't like old fashioned things and, as it was in the sale, I thought it was worth her trying it.

Unfortunately, they only had my size left and when it arrived today, it fits me so, absolutely no good for mum. It's no problem as I could just return it free of charge but, I am trying to reduce my carbon footprint and I was reading an article which said that a recent study in Newark, Delaware, suggests that the knock-on effect of online shopping may worsen traffic-congestion and transport related carbon emissions so, being a person of principle, I am going to do the right thing and keep it for myself 😇

a phone charging power bank. I have 2 already, but I've pulled the house apart and can't find either one..

2 silk eye masks, because I'm sensitive to light at night, and I think where I'll be staying on my trip in July will not have any light blocking curtains..

.. and a keyboard to attach to my Max Fire 11

I get the individual packets of both the chicken and beef from Amazon... there are 50 packets and it used to be $9 but then started climbing like everything else. Now it's fluctuating between $10 and $13, but still very worth it to me considering the cost of the carton & canned broths. Glad you were able to find it, too, @hearlady !

Just want to say that our new Greenworks mower is fabulous. It’s easy to use, it’s light, it cuts long thick grass great ( had some long patches ) it’s quiet, it’s fun to use. I mowed for 3/4 of an hour. The small battery needs charging and it used 1/4 of the bigger battery. I mowerd the side law which is about 1/3 acre but very steep. Since it’s self propelled , it doesn’t go flying down the hill. It’s very controlled. It’s also easy to adjust the height. It’s a very well thought out design.
