What have you bought recently?

Like @GoodEnuff I did some thrift shopping last week. Wanted to get out of the house because I knew I would be stuck inside with dental procedures this week.

I found to my delight, I small corning ware casserole dish, perfect for a couple of servings. I lost most of mine when my sister and DIL decided to clean out my kitchen when my husband died. I did not know this was happening or I would have stopped it. Goofy girls, they just did not think it was old fashioned. I am still upset over the whole thing. Warning: Do not let the family in when you lose a spouse or partner.

I got a stainless steel 8 inch frying pan that looks like it was never used. Perfect for those that only cook for one. I got two beautiful, large, heavy ceramic mugs perfect for tea, soup, chili. Two shades of green that are back in style with a fleur de lis raised pattern. I got a new set of measuring spoons, new in package for 39 cents, a lovely new tobaggan in a pale pink, also new for 1.99 and a set of 3 new makeup sponges for 1.99, should I ever need to wear makeup again.

The thing I am so excited about @hollydolly was a yorkshire deep cup baking pan. It was only 4.00 and in like new condition. I am not supposed to have many bread products now but these seem to be made with eggs and little flour. I have also purchased a gluten free flour to see if that will work. There was also a crumpet pan (english muffin}, I think, if it is still there when I go back, it will come home with me.

Thrifting for me is like hunting for treasure. It is a fine way to spend time out of the house and get your steps in for very little cost if you find just the thing you need.

Thrift stores and chrirty shops are completely different things here. Thrift stores sell all new things but at discounted prices... Charity shops sell used, donated goods...

We have an abundance of charity shops... evey town has at least one but most have a few.. all purporting to be supporting one charity or another.

They used to be good, we'd get real bargains, clothing, Furniture, bric-a-brac.. but now the cost of living has soared so high here people are holding onto their nice things... and just donating tat, and what's worse is, in the attempt to keep up with the ever rising rents on the high street, the Charity shops are now charging far too much money for that same tat...!

I donate all the time.. big bags every few weeks and my things are nice, and well looked after, and so they can charge quite a bit for them for the charity..

Yes it is true, the prices have increased in price these last few years. I hate to say it but most of the nice things probably come from homes where the person has passed. Most people, I would say under 40, don't appreciate the beauty and reliability of older things.

They think it is better to pay $1,000 for a dresser made of plywood when they could find a dresser of hard rock maple for $50 at a charity/thrift shop. I am so happy that my Mom taught me these things growing up. She said "rich people can buy anything but then they give it away for nothing".

There are many things furniture wise, in my home that were in my Mom's house, my Mils, my husband
aunt and purchased at estate sales. I know what I like, what makes me happy. Most of these things are furniture made from real wood and kitchen things.

I have only bought presents for other people, small gifts mostly: wall calendars, yearly diaries, toiletries, chocolates, pj's and some craft stuff for my crafty friends :) More Christmas shopping tomorrow and then, hopefully, it will all be done for another year although, I will probably go for a browse on Monday and to pick up anything we may have forgotten, there is usually something.

I am not buying anything for myself until after Christmas. Boxing Day will be a day of rest and recuperation before my friends and I hit the sales! I am not intending to buy anything but, it's always fun and I always end up buying something! 🙃

Yesterday for $2.90 bought a 3 by 5 inch rectangle acrylic mirror. Thus a lightweight mirror not using glass that is more prone to scratching. Then using a coping saw, cut 3 each 1.5 by 1.25 crude squares out of it, filed smooth edges, drilled a small hole in one corner into which in each stuffed tied into a knot a red rubber band. Then added a dab of E6000 flexible glue.

So what is this you wonder? Well I only needed to make one but made 2 extras as any small pocket items while skiing are easy to lose thus 2 spares. I have a small GoPro8 Point of View (POV) action video camera that I mount atop my helmet to sometimes record my skiing. While wearing the helmet, I cannot see the camera's small LCD screen and if in record mode a blinking red LED. Taking off a ski helmet with net strap buckle and attached ski goggles is not a simple task, especially during foul weather.

If the battery becomes low or the media space runs out, the camera will shut down. Also when the camera becomes cold it may shut down due to gearing mechanical resistance. And one cannot always recall the last time one put the camera into Record mode or if it was even powered on?

Thus am adding one of these custom mirrors into my pocket in order to view the camera LCD reflection without taking my helmet off by just orienting the mirror out in front at arms length.

Today I ordered a guide for slicing bread. I cannot cut straight. Also reusable bread bags and another toy for baby Darius.
If it is homemade who cares as long as you have butter in the house!

Nothing like finding cute things for babies. I wish the kids had little one or even a neighbor!! I hate to admit it but my grandson is old enough to like money, plus, these days I don't know what tween boys want.

Today I bought a Christmas present for the last person on my list. It was a sack with these things in it: A container of Planter's cashews, a box of chocolates, a money card holding $20 and a book of Forever stamps. It's a tremendous relief to be DONE shopping for Christmas. :)

Due to my age and health (notably stenosis of the spine) I'm numb from my knees down. I've had a few bad falls and become very cautious about venturing out with my 2 canes (instability). I also refused based upon advice from an othorpedic surgeon, the fact I had childhood polio, not to have any type of spinal surgery.. My chances of a full recovery or limited use would be near or at 0%.

I decided to purchase a walker to use, pride is not an issue at this point. Got it & assembled it yesterday. It was a lot heavier/stronger than thought, built & designed for a taller man, I'm 6'3''. It has a wider stance & 10' wheels, longer length to prevent accidental kickback. The reviews were very positive & accurate to meet my needs.

Bought this today from Home Depot. The plumber is coming Monday to install it. My son reminded me that a couple of years ago when we looked at faucets, they were around $200 (guess that's why I didn't buy one back then). This one was $84 and change, including the tax.

Also picked up my Amazon order of Scotch masking tape and indelible ink (fraud proof) pens.

Still on my buying spree. I had bought what I thought were hearing aids, later description referred to them as amplified devices. 1 of 4 went dead would charge but never got them to work. After reviewing my earlier purchase, I decided to spend a little more a get the improved model the Atom Pro 2. 1 set was as costly as the other package ($149 standard model) which included 4 devices, so 1 could be charging while wearing the other..

The smaller, new non-amplified 'improved' Atom Pro 2 (charge should last 24 hours) will do everything for you at $289. They were having a sale & got $75 off the price. So with free shipping & no sales tax I got them for $214. Hopefully they will do everything (including breakfast) for me. They are supposed to connect to my smartphone app through 'Bluetooth' for more bells & whistles. They arrived today but haven't opened the package as yet.

It adds up very fast! How much are haircuts with your hairdresser? Mine is 35$, plus I tip him $5.00. Long down to bra strap.
