What have you bought recently?

Since as a landscape photographer often out in the field camping and backpacking where there is no electrical power, today received from Amazon today for just $24 this modern era 15 watt or ~2.8 amperes at a voltage regulated 5v output with USB-A and USB-C connector portable ruggedized solar charger that weighs a mere 10.6 ounces that folds up to 7.8" by 8.8" by 0.7". P=EI= (2.8*5.0=14.0 watts). Of course in this era, this old tech person has a lot of little toys that don't run by twisting some mechanical crank.

This afternoon my top end Google Pixel 10 PRO smartphone with a large 4870 mahr lithium battery showed its power was at 55%. I placed the solar charger sort of pointing perpendicularly at 3pm to 5pm at sunshine coming through an upstairs bedroom condo window. By time I returned home about 5:30pm, my Pixel was 100% charged that I thought was rather impressive.

Do let us know how it performs over time.... I currently take a fully charged charging bank with me if I know I'm going to be away from anywhere to charge my phone...

That is impressive, David!

Today I was treated, by my lady, to be measured up for a made to measure coat. It's a belated Christmas present, delayed due to our own circumstances and further delayed by my tailor's impending house sale. Some coat though, well worth waiting for.

The photo actually appears elsewhere, my tailor came across it and sent me a text asking what I thought of it. I text back:
"Yes please!"

I ordered a nice heating pad that goes around your neck, over your shoulders and down the back from Amazon for my sister's birthday next week and had it sent to her. She's been having back problems.

The day after I ordered it, I was talking to her on the phone and she said she had asked her husband to order her a new heating pad, but that she was sure he'd forget.

I laughed and told her to forget reminding him about it as she'd be getting one in two days. It was the exact one she wanted, too. How's that for telepathy?

A new open-box Apple Magic Folio keyboard for my iPad 12.9 Pro. There were no new ones available anywhere. My old keyboard was peeling and kept locking up. If this new keyboard earns me at least one more year of this iPad, I’ll be happy. I was shocked to see I bought it in 2020.

I think this must be the first time I’ve ever used EBay, since I had to sign up for it. I didn’t bid, just bought what I needed and I’m happy.

The Costco run just seems to be more costly each time. $450 and I ran back in to pick up a manual device to clear an airway in case of choking. Better safe than sorry.

As long as I can stick to the items I know and need, the big chunk of cash in one go is worth it. The same hand lotion at Walmart is half the size for the same price. Bought one for each of us.

I can also justify the spending since lunch for two was $4.39.

1. Propane fill for the home heating tank.

2. Door latch fixed on Saturn that took 22 years to finally wear completely. Had to have a new door, but at least the body shop could re use the skin from my original door. I sat on their cushy pleather couch for 3-1/2 hours while they swapped things out.

By then I was too tired to go after horse & dog feed. Our weather is supposed to tank below freezing for 60 hours, yet again. I am hoping it at least stays dry so I can make a run and restock. I am down to about ten days feed for the 30-something year old horse, because he is such a hard keeper. I am feeding him 3X/day which helps him better digest his food.

Anyway, between those two things above, my checkbook is starting to cry for help🫣🫣

Did some grocery and Costco shopping yesterday. Costco has DH's favorite coffee beans on sale again, so I bought the maximum of 5 bags for him (best by dates of January 2027), plus a can of ground decaf for me. So out of a $150 total, $98 went to coffee.

Supposedly the perfect temperature for keeping coffee beans fresh is 60-75 degrees, meaning inside-the-house temps. I've already ziplocked the vacuum sealed bags and will store them inside the house rather than the garage or refrigerator.

This morning, ordered from Amazon for $52, the below 3 items. In decades past these items would have cost much more but now that Asia is building so much of our electronics they are also testing such so are marketing lots of cheap test products now for their own purposes.

The below test leads are for my multimeters that I seem to have over time lost some of the accessories for. Electronic hardware testing was my career.

Need the USB cable tester since I have such an ever increasing pile of USB cables that I'm always dealing with trying to understand what is actually wired to pins within each.

And the USB Power Meter below is an inline adaptor for understanding power/current draw from my various toys, how much charging current is happening when plugging various devices into whatever, especially my new Pixel smartphone, and also so I can more easily perform tests on the new portable solar panel per link below,
What have you bought recently?

that I now have while it is in the sun in various atmospheric situations with various devices attached.

Do you buy much online?

Do you prefer to shop in the brick & mortar stores...?

Did you recently get a great bargain, or feel you've paid too much for something ?

Come and share what you've bought in either ....

This week we bought a new Electric telescopic Pole tree saw.. .. which arrived today..alongside a gallon of oil for it..

Still waiting for half the order to arrive even tho' we paid for a specific date for delivery
Lately it has been small practical stuff. I ordered a new charger and a couple of tools online and they showed up on time, which felt like a win. I still prefer local shops for bigger purchases, mostly to avoid delivery surprises.

Today I got a pack of 6 Latex make-up sponges, surprisingly good quality... a pack of 5 pairs of socks, and a long sleeve swing top... all for less than £10 from Amazon haul
Alsso bought some coffee mug coasters... silicone this time.. see how long these last !

A very real concern! (becoming forgetful)

I am in the last chapter of an off and on useful re-read of the book this last week. She has excellent introspective awareness and analysis skills. This guy noticed Lisa, besides having an attractive italiana face, is also a snow skiing enthusiast and dancer.

Also logged into my Amazon account and reviewed all my past book orders over 5 pages of search hits that go back to 2005 and found another neuroscience book I totally forgot about I now will re-read. As someone with a technology career that had to read ridiculous amounts of difficult to mentally grasp technical and science info over decades, re-reading such information a second time even years later, because such builds on earlier reading, often results in better, more permanent subject comprehension.
