I'm glad it was rescued. It's sad how people will desert their pets.My guess is it was a neighbor (a renter, I found out)who didn't want him anymore. I called the county animal control but said they don't deal with Iguanas, haha. I ran across the street for a neighbor who works for a wildlife place that rescues animals. She came over in her dress and pulled him down from a tree he started to climb. No one claimed him so she took him to the animals rescue place where he lives now. It was quite an experience!
We have lots of feral cats around here. I wonder if that cat is feral. This early morning I saw that stupid neighborhood black cat sleeping in my outdoor furniture. I hope for his sake it never walks on my new car. No one seems to know who it belongs to. Could be from the other community across the street.
Wow, it must be a big cat. I've seen some really big ones, too.I live in a quiet subdivision and I only see people walking their dogs or jogging. There is one cat that roams the neighborhood just to annoy the dogs.
Every house it passes the dogs start barking and Pickles is no exception...this cat make the hair on his back stand!
Actually this cat kind of freaked me out the first time I came across it when I was walking....I turned around to see this huge cat with the longest legs Ive ever seen on a cat...thankfully I was near my house and decided to go home instead of continuing my walk...Scary cat!![]()
We have tons of squirrels around here. I also see them out my back window. They have a huge tree back there that they scurry up and down.Since our neighborhood outdoor cat has been adopted, and made indoor, the ground squirrels are back in force, tunneling near the foundation of the house. Causes wet basement in heavy rains.
I will check that out Hal. I think raccoons are cute but I'm scared of them still. What a coincidence, Ruthanne!
We've lived in the High Desert for 19 years, and we see many Coyotes, some who have their dens in vacant fields in our neighborhood, also Jackrabbits,
Kit Foxes, Kangaroo Rats, (one was eating popcorn inside the popcorn bag my wife was holding while at a Star Party), Ground Squirrels, an occasional Bobcat, and even a Mountain Lion, which are captured by Animal Control and taken back to their mountain habitat.
My wife leaves dry cat food and water in bowls on our front porch for stray cats, and the other night she turned on the porch light to see if any stray cats were visiiting, and then she called me over to the front door and I saw a large Raccoon!
It was taking food from the bowl with its HANDS!( It doesn't have paws as such, but actual hands with 5 fingers!) When I rattled the front door knob it looked right at me, turned and slowly ambled away, unlike the cats which will quickly dart away. it returned shortly thereafter and continued eating the cat food.
What puzzled me is these are not High Desert creatures, so this one must have wandered away from Spring Valley Lake, a resort community about 4 miles away.
I became so interested in Raccoons that I visited YouTube and watched several educational videos of raccoons, and others with 'coons interacting with people and their pets. Check it out...it's really interesting! I even learned that when there's water nearby, they will WASH their food before eating it!
