What If You Put A Penny On Railroad Tracks?

When I was a kid we were warned not to do that for fear we would derail the train!
We were told the same, and promptly ignored the advice.

At about 8 years old a cop picked my friend and I up whilst playing on the tracks. He really chewed us out and included the derailment warning. He finished by telling us he would not take us to jail this time, but if he ever caught us again our asses would be grass and his name would be lawnmower.

From then on we called him Lawnmower, but were back out playing on the tracks the next day.

It's interesting, so many of us grew up near the railroad tracks.

We used to pick elderberries along the tracks.

I remember finding these little Edison Battery Oil bottles near the switches.
