What irks me about football (American)

Bread and Circuses to keep the unwashed masses distracted.

More and more scripted antics, big money / advertising revenue.

Further to this, and it‘s a huge burr under my saddle, is the ridiculous amount of money some of the players get paid.

”Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott will earn an average yearly salary of $60 million, making him the highest-paid player in NFL history.”

These Are the 5 Highest-Paid NFL Players of 2024.

The best thing about a football game to me is the time I spend at the barn with my horses.

Labor renting their talent to the highest bidder is a good thing, imo. And of course nobody mentions the downsides of playing like debilitating injuries, including severe brain damage or the years of learning, playing, working out, and other sacrifices needed to be worthy of huge salaries.

Conversely no one seems to get upset at the owners(capital); the franchises and TV contracts that are worth in the billions.

I agree but to 1. Turn off the sound and use the captions instead like I do
2. Why do you care? Maybe it is spontaneous glee for a a few seconds it is much better than The Three Stooges episode when Curly runs out of the park with the ball in hand
3. True for all professional sports and football is worst percent of play vs ad time A study was done. All the timeouts means longer commercials so the station has more breaks to do
more commercials I assume. A reason that I don't watch longer than 20 minutes
Why do you watch them?
Salaries used to anger me but it doesn't take away from the game. Steroids and PEDs bother me more because their performance is inauthentic and lacks true merit and plainly unethical
