What is a "soul"?

Despite eight years of parochial school education, I really have no idea. We will probably all have our own take on this question, but I feel that the "soul" may be the personality of the person, what makes them unique from others. I believe pets have souls also, but that's too much for one thread. What do you think about the "soul"? It's a thought provoking question.

It certainly does, maybe we don't evolve physically but evolve spiritually, but then again where does leave narcissists that have no empathy whatsoever?
It's a tough question, to have empathy you must have a conscience, but it still doesn't answer what it is, this question takes you all the way back to metaphysics.

You are a Soul, we all are, the bodies that we are using
are only temporary, they don't last very long, then they
die, next time round you get the loan of another body,
this goes on every time, the body is just a vehicle, the
Soul is the intelligence.

Mike.

What is a "soul"?

According to Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soul):

In many religious and philosophical traditions, there is a belief that a soul is "the immaterial aspect or essence of a human being".

I don't believe in the supernatural and to me that is where the soul lands. In the end I think it is what you believe it is.

It's also a kind of food and music.

A sole ain’t nothin’ but the bottom of a shoe
and a hero ain’t nothin’ but a sandwich.

There is not a clear definition what a soul is..maybe the soul is the essence of being in a person. Some people have a large presence about them, you can feel them in a room. Maybe that sense of being continues after a person is gone.

The soul and the spirit are connected, but separable. The soul is the essence of humanity’s being; it is who we are; it's life. The spirit is the immaterial part of humanity that connects with God. The spirit can be alive or dead. We can have the spirit but we can't be spirits.

You speak with such authority.
I always try to introduce my faith-based replies with the disclosure: "My faith-based reply is..."
Sorry, I missed it this time. Maybe I should add it to my signature at the bottom of every post.

I share who I am. You share you. I accept you. Please accept me.
I'm not interested in interfering with your ability to make your own choices.

Why didn't you call Mike out? He shared his own opinion. Oh, because he's more handsome than I :giggle:

Surely, it's not my authority. It's God's according to my faith.
Thank you for bringing it to my attention.

Edit: Why didn't you say that to Mike? Oh, because he's more handsome than I :giggle:

You're right. I'll have to give Mike a severe tongue lashing. :ROFLMAO:

What is a "soul"?
The life force, the energy within the body. Some people believe that God has gifted us some of his power, I believe this.
Some people believe that a "soul" and a "spirit" are different, some people think they are the same. I don't believe there is a way to distinguish a difference between the two, independent of thought produced by others.

In a religious sense, I think it's just a fabrication to make people be good and go to heaven. In a non-religious sense, its probably your essence ... what makes you, you.
