It is made primarily of metal with a wooden handle and is approx. 11" long.

What Is It?

Prototype of this gadget?

A part of a car engine? We need more clues Phil. Is this the whole gadget or is it something to make a bigger gadget more efficient?

Some kind of animal trap???

Nope - at least, hopefully not!

No, but they DO look a bit alike, don't they?

Belt splicer?

Not a belt-splicer.

Not part of a car engine.

This is the whole gadget.

More clues, huh? Hmmm ...

Okay - it has a small wooden handle. :playful:

The wooden handle's not a new clue; you already said that..... :p

Oops, yeah, sorry about that. :(

Okey-dokey, then (as my hero Dr. Lecter was always so fond of saying) - it's something you could still use today if you're a stickler for home-made things. ;)

It kind of looks like one of those old car jacks. I can't see where the handle fits on. If we know where the handle goes, and what that part looks like, maybe it would all make more sense. At this point, it looks like the handle could make it jack something up, and the foot pedal would then release it afterwards.

That makes sense - here's part of the patent drawing showing the handle highlighted ...

Frustrating, isn't it? BWAAAAAAA-hahahahahahahaha! :playful:

I see a spring, and the cover thingie flips over that, apparently.....then the handle to turn it. Could that be a pasta cutter??? :givemebeer:

Is it maybe an apple press for making apple cider ?

Nope, not an apple press ...

DING! DING! DING!

WE HAVE A WINNA' !!!

Anne correctly guessed "pasta cutter". It takes a sheet of dough, flattens it to a pre-selected thickness then cuts it into strips.

Great going Anne, and great guesses everyone!

No kidding!!! It just *looked* like a pasta cutter, but I didn't think they had them way back then.

LOL, Seabreeze, you gotta tak your ipad or phone with you next time!!! :D

No Ipad or internet phone here Anne, still livin' in the stone age! :p

That's ok, Seabreeze...I'm not all that fond of electronics myself, especially since I dropped the ipad and now it has tape on it, and it's slowed up some....;)
