What is something that is popular now that annoys you?

People flocking to mega-sources destroying privately owned and operated, service oriented business.

Not saying I can't personally understand & appreciate the usefulness to consumers (me included, sometimes) of businesses like Costco & Amazon. But it's not hard to remember businesses in which the owner & employees had good people skills, were amiable, and knowledgeable about what they sold. In fact, people with a depth of local and/or technical knowledge.

Am I stretching the application of "popularity"? Anyway, I've seen very good local businesses like book shops, or small-engine machine sales & repair shops, driven to close their doors. The trend (or popularity, if we want) can leave quite a gap, at least in a locality like mine. And that annoys me.

And similarly those who constantly brag they bought such and such for themselves - 'all very expensive' - and then go on to moan about having to pay a miserly amount for something or complain about the cost of bills, or going without heat because they can't afford it.

Priorities are all wrong. :rolleyes:
 
Well, one of the prerogatives of getting older is that you can become grumpy, and people almost expect you to. We might as well take advantage, and people will humor us. I need to work on getting the right edge of disgust and condemnation in my voice when I complain… 😾

This country needs another Great Depression where people stand in line for bread wondering if they will ever work again to help them put things back into realistic perspective.

The problem is entitlement. Instead of being grateful to have a job, you get this kind of BS.

Both of my parents were born in 1923, and experienced the Great Depression first hand as children. Dad had 8 younger siblings and Mother had 5. Neither one of them would ever wish for another Depression to be inflicted upon anyone. And, as best as I can recall, we have always had folks who felt "entitled". We just didn't have the interwebz to hear/read about it all the time. :)

Everyone will not be on the breadline. The poor and middle class will. Your wish on your own people is repulsive to me. Most rich will be unscarred. Most entitled will too.

My mother never got over the Depression. I wouldn't wish the horror of her childhood on any child. I think it was just 'off the top of your head.' You did not think this through.

On your reading list, read true stories of the suffering inflicted; hopefully you will change your mind.

Your wish is foolish. I think you were not really thinking when you expressed this cruel desire.

People with clipboards attempting to stop me at the supermarket entrance saying, "Would you spare me 15 minutes of your time, Sir, to complete a survey?"

My answer is always, "I might not have 15 minutes left, but if you come and spend a few hours weeding my garden, then I'd be happy to help with your survey."

I get some strange looks from them. 😊
 
Cars that turn off the motor at a traffic light. It's just not right. The Jurassic Park movies prove they are still making dinosaurs to keep up the crude oil supply.
