What is something you would like to master?

But for some reason do not have the time or wherewithal to complete.
I would love to learn to play the guitar.
Then I could sit around the campfire, under the Milky Way and play some funky tunes.
I did have the opportunity at school. I was loaned a guitar for 6 months as part of the music class.
Though I was not great at study and I never achieved that.

I can build simple things like boxes - i.e., a cubby for my feral cat friend, a platform for a mattress - but I would love to have mastered carpentry.
Such a handy skill to have. I remember being fascinated when my father built another bedroom onto our house by himself.
He was a Fitter and Turner by trade. I thought he could do anything.

You've probably been to that area

I was there in Y2K
They couldn't understand each other
Different provinces, different dialects
Maybe it's better now that folks there can move about easier
Back then you had to have some pretty current papers in order to go from one province to another.

I wanted to learn to play the guitar, too! I even bought one. I started trying with cds that teach some but lost interest. It sits in my hallway now.

A little story I tucked away;

‘Again’

I’ve nursed a fondness for music
Not an obsession
But it’s there
When I was around 13 I thought the guitar was a sexy, easy thing to conquer
Mom took me to a music teacher
A teacher of the guitar
Older Spanish fellow
Thick accent
Learned the keys, notes
High E to low E
And back
Over
And over

‘again’

He’d go eat dinner

Come back

‘again’

Years later (seemed) we proceeded on to Little Brown 'Chug’
And there we stayed

‘again’

Dinner

‘again’

After the fingertips of my left hand developed calluses on their calluses I came to the conclusion we weren’t gonna move on to House of the Rising Sun right away,
or in my lifetime

But, man, could I ever knock out Little Brown Jug

A few decades later, I happened onto another guitar
Ran thru a few Brown Jug riffs, then centered on It Takes a Worried Man

Found it relaxing

After several renditions, and weeks turned into months of relaxing, singing a worried song,
one day while I was at work, the family sold my instrument to the lowest bidder
We went to dinner at the local smorgasbord that night, their treat
During dessert, they told me of their deed

I wondered how they'd come in to such extravagant funds
Heh, I was gettin’ rather weary of that song too

Anyway, other than profound lilts from the echo of the shower walls, I’ve never been given to creating a tune worthy of listening

But

I’m a good listener

I would like to master or quiet my concerns over my future.

Definitely psychology. I love finding out what makes people tick. I'm currently looking at online courses.
It is a fascinating topic, i had read widely in it (including William James, Freud, Jung, Szasz thru the modern researchers and practitioners before i even went back to school for it. Just keep in mind that as in every science paradigms shift over time. And always ask yourself if pronouncements some make as if they were absolutes laws of human nature hold true in your circles or even in yourself. Often psychologists reveal as much if not more about themselves and their issues with the conclusions they draw as they can accurately deduce about others.

i'm with @oldpop: Myself. i've made progress over the years---but not quite how i want to be.

In general, while i have at various times in my life excelled at various things, i was always more of 'personal best' kind of striver--can i do whatever better tomorrow than i did it today and yesterday? i always play solo video games because they are to exercise my brain, and distract from pain at times, not about scoring better than someone else.

My most basic goal in most things is competency not mastery tho i suppose for some the meaning of the two words is very much the same.
