One funny thing in my first family was the "drinks war" as Papa and I came to name it. It meant that a variety of drinks were on offer. Be it the soft drinks to put into your spirit and enjoy the cocktails of your choice.
My grandpa loved Scotch Whisky, I followed suit. Whereas Papa preferred Rye Whisky. Some would have only Bombay Gin, the others London Dry Gin. Let's not get into the wars between Coke and Pepsi, Sprite over 7Up. It was ridiculous.
I'm just back from getting Christmas Groceries with Daughter. We managed to save loads as always, which is a blessing in a tight budget. So, after drinking the same bottle of Famous Grouse, which was down to dregs and 7 years ago, it was time for another blended whisky.
Our pick -- a 70cL Glen Orchy 5 years old. Mmm... Delightful! A Silver Award Winner. Currently having a special hot drink, Scottish Coffee, espresso coffee, capful of Scotch, whipped cream and a dusting of cocoa powder.
Lidl's own distributed by Whyte and Mackay, similar in taste to Johnny Walker's Red Label. It's the sweetness of Glen Orchy which is appealing to us. Seriously worth the money and after all, it's one bottle once a year, in December.
Going off to make Eggnog with condensed milk, eggs and Caribbean White Rum and that bottle is over 5 years old. From this time, 15 December until the Holidays end on 5 January, a warming wee dram of Scotch Whisky is the way to go. Slangavar, Cheers!
Anyone for Mexican Connection cocktail? A Piña Colada with an added touch of Tequila!
