What is the best country to live besides Australia?

Complicated question for me. I'm a USA citizen born and raised overseas and I wish I'd never left Hong Kong. But I did, 52 years ago, I can't turn back the clock, I've made a place for myself in America and better the devil I know than starting over again now.
But if I could do it all over again and pick a country? Probably Canada.
 

I know most of you would have chosen Australia if I hadnt made that an exception.😉
If the truth be known Im one contented cumudgeon. Who needs Heaven. Im already there.☺
 
I'll never leave the USA...

That would require getting on a plane or boat.

Been in a flight simulator...almost died...not happening unless you hog tie me and give me some Michael Jackson drugs.

Last boat I was on.. in the deep blue sea, ran into a water spout.....never again.

I'm quite content right here with my feet on solid ground.

so you are turned off planes altogether?
that seems a shame to me. travel interstate by car/bus?

That's what we say about the UK.....but we know the answer as to why they avoid every other European country near them, and risk life and limb to get over the water , to come here and it's not because they're desperate, and fear for their lives (the vast majority), because if they were they'd move to the next border country or the one after that..or any of the many after that within Europe.., they don't have to swim, pile dozens into a raft, stow away under trucks which are on boats as freight, to get to any of those other countries.. so why do they take all these risks to come here?.. because we're the only idiots who will give them benefits and housing, without them ever having lived here or paid a penny in taxes!!

And with that I have to stop replying because this will descend into a political debate, and I don't want to take get the blame for that... sorry!!
 
That's right. They're looking for "the American dream" (or in your case the UK dream). "The land of opportunity"...for free. Immigrants used to work their way up to where they could pay their taxes in order to help the other immigrants coming in....paying forward. The work ethic has changed. Now many (not all of course) work the system in a way unintended.
 
Canada would be quite nice if only they could do something about their winters.
We enjoyed the short time we had in Australia, but we will stay here in sunny Florida.
