What is the greatest lesson you've learned in life?

NOTHING IN THIS WORLD LASTS FOREVER, NOTHING! SO...
Live in the present but always have a Plan B. It would seem God laughs at the plans of man. Roll with the punches. Those who make hard plans will find great disappointment in this life. Finally live a peaceful life. Don't chase money or fame. Instead pursue peace and grace. (I'm working on that last one)

We're all in this together.

A lot of things that seem like major big deals in the moment turn out not to be in retrospect, and a lot of things that didn't seem that important at the time turn out to be significant in retrospect.

OK, serious, nothing flip;

Skyking’s post is so freaking right.
And sparked a couple thoughts

I learned a lot about myself these last few years

When building something, anything, one learns much about oneself

It’s a test of complacency
A definition of perfection
A discovery of completion
A separation from pride, simple happiness or dissatisfaction taking it’s place
A discovery of endurance
Endurance to fight thru or for those things
And, where I now live, it’s never ending

Material things?
I love them
But now, now they’re more basic, more hands on, tangible

Someone, in another forum, posed the question; ‘What is your definition of a cabin?’

My reply;

For me?

It's more than even Kinkade could replicate.
It's warmer than the warmest of wood stoves.
It has more charisma than the grandest of orators,
more appeal than the most opulent edifice built.

Yet it's simpler than the simplest of abodes.

It turns a mason jar into a drinking glass,
a tuna can into an ash tray,
a wooden apple box into a cabinet,
a burlap bag into a slip cover,
favorite old clothes into attire of choice,
a stranger into an acquaintance,
an acquaintance into a friend,
a wife into a mistress,

a life....into living.

And for me,

the bonus

it's now home.

Gennie, that sounds like my mother. It was only towards the end of her life that regret crept in and she seemed to realise that things could have been a lot better. Don't sit around thinking "what if?" - do something about it.

I learned that everybody is an expert at something,
you just have to find out what it is.

This is how I looked at people who worked under me,
they were sent, I didn't choose them.

Mike.

Gary o: The cabin is beautiful! You're beautiful!

Ah, a thread well worthy of being read from beginning to end.
Thanks for bring this one back to the forefront.
Looking at some of these early posters and their wisdom is humbling and confirms that I missed a lot by not finding this forum much earlier. It is surprising, and regrettable, how many of them have not appeared on the forum for a long time.
