What is the Last Car Repair You Had to Have Done?

New brake light switches....actually, new complete assemblies.
New fuses
Gotta be a bad ground...'somewhere'...that reconnects from time to time....grrrrrr

I would be interested in knowing what the shop found, if you don’t mind.

Not at all
Nothing
They couldn't get it to fail
Told 'em to jack it up six inches and drop it, see if that does anything
Of course they wouldn't do that
Sooooo, she's back on the road again....until she fails...then back to the shop.
As it stands, we rarely drive at night, but every time I get in that thing I'm checking brake lights

The shop didn't charge me, of which was rather nice

I’ll bet you didn’t take it to a dealer. They would have charged you for checking it out at about $120.00 an hour.

Those types of repairs can be a mystery.

I just picked up my car and the 3 things were fixed, I have good AC. The only bad thing now is when I went to pick up my prescriptions and rolled down the window the dang window went off track and now it is lobsided--oh wow, got to get THAT fixed now--another 100 or 200.00 I bet! It's always something with my car!!:devilish:

Cars drive me crazy!

We purchased an extended maintenance and warranty with our 2017 SUV. It has something like 27 computer chips in it, LOL, along with a twin-turbo V6. Labor costs are very high out here so even a simple problem can be big bucks. Found an excellent service dealer so we reluctantly gave up our very good independent repair guy who worked on our previous cars.

Where we live we have to drive everywhere, so with only one car it has to be 100% reliable. Our freeway traffic goes fast; even the slow lane usually hits 65+mph and the fast lane goes a standard 75-80 mph. I'm accelerating uphill to merge onto the freeway so I don't want any surprises when I stomp on that accelerator!

Getting a newer vehicle with all the safety equipment is FABULOUS. I would never go back to an older car again. Worth every penny and makes driving a lot easier as well as safer.

Great you have a newer vehicle, wish I could afford one...

I have a Ford... I get it serviced regularly so not usually too much if anything wrong with it although I do have to use my key to unlock the drivers door now . All other doors open fine with the remote but not the drivers door...

I'm currently looking for a new car, so I'm not over bothered !!

I have to get an AC stuff injection. You can tell I'm an auto mechanic. Years ago, (60s-70s) I used to do all the repairs on my cars. Well, they were junks to begin with. I had this huge book, Chilton's. It took you step by step into fixing any car. Today, I don't even wash my own car.

My car is a 2002 Honda Civic. Good car until 2 years ago. It started having brake issues - scraping noise and a thumping feeling the in pedal. I took it to a local garage and they replaced the front rotors and pads. Okay for about a week and the problem returned. I took it back and they said since they are primarily a Ford garage, there was nothing more they could do. Then I took it to the Honda dealership garage. They wouldn't work on it after they saw I had work done at another garage who replaced "genuine Honda parts" with generic. I finally went to a garage that had a high rating on may consumer ratings Web sites. Cost almost $500, they had to replace all the front brake parts, but it's been okay so far.

I need a new compressor on my AC, but Honda said $800 to fix (on a 17-year-old car???). For that, I can do what they did in the "old" days - roll down the windows and let the breeze cool me. I also has to get new front tires this past winter.

Being a journeyman mechanic has its advantages. :) I do all the work on any of our many vehicles and I would have to be laying in a hospital bed before I'd let a dealer touch my stuff. (of course, most of my stuff is older). That said, I broke my own rule recently. The wife's trike was acting like it was down on power a little. I took a dry and wet compression test and didn't really like the numbers. (borderline according to spec sheet) I also noticed the plugs were showing white indicating a lean situation. Well, the wife insisted that we should take it to a specialist and she was willing to pay to have it double checked. So, here I am at the counter with miss twiggy... give her the compression numbers, tell her the plugs are showing extreme lean condition, so, could they examine the internals to see if possibly a scuffed cylinder wall or any other problems. I'm told that it will be $129 to do the check. Fine, they will call in a day or 2. After waiting a week and 2 days I give them a call. Mechanic is checking it now and will get right back. 2 days later, I call back and I'm told the engine will need an overhaul. $3000 dollars plus more if it needs an overbore. Now, I told them I'll just come get it. When I get there, they hand me the bill, now $154. and I ask to see the work order and results. Hand me a copy and I kid you not... on it say's borderline compression and white plugs indicating lean condition. Where have I heard that before. Well, I sort of went off. I asked did they examine the piston/cylinder and determine the engine was shot? Oh no says Twiggy, that would have cost you $1000 dollars. Silly me, I then asked why would a bore scope peek inside a cylinder cost $1000? I got the dumb found look and retort "we don't have a bore scope"
Anyway, Bike is back home, new bore scope is on it's way ($39 dollars Amazon), and I'll fix the darn thing myself.

Motor on the seat stopped working. I am the only driver so I feel no urgency.
