What is the most spontaneous thing you have done?

When my Father died in 1987 there was nothing keeping me in my cold, wet, miserable home town.
I got out a map of Western Australia, closed my eyes and my finger landed on Esperance, on the south coast. 4000 km's away from Queenstown.
Within 3 weeks I had sold my house and was in Esperance where I lived for 4 years before moving to Perth.
Best spontaneous decision I have ever made.

When I was 17 my mom got mad at me for some borderline juvenile delinquent thing I did, and threatened to "put me in the military".
The next day I went to the recruiter's station and signed up, and when she got home from work I gave my mom the papers to sign.

I signed my life away for 3 years in the Army in exchange for a year and a half training in the trades(mechanical, electrical, welding, refrigeration, etc) which provided me the skills to earn a decent living my entire life.

Oh, I give no thought to what will happen if I take risks. I don't know if I jump off a cliff if I will survive, I just jump!
I've quit jobs, even managerial positions, suddenly., with nothing to fall back on.
Bought a home without talking to my husband. Lots of things, when I think back!
Thing is, I know, no matter what happens, I 'll survive somehow.
The most important thing is, a decision was made, and not by fear or by a need for security.
You have to shakeup your life once in a while!

We were living in South Florida in 2005. We owned a house there and my widowed mother also owned one. We were sick of the stress, the unfriendly residents, the commutes and the hurricanes. We had visited Dallas and really enjoyed it. The cost of living was also much lower at the time. We looked at many homes with a realtor and decided on our current one.

I met with my boss and told her we were moving. Even if we had no jobs, the financial benefits outweighed the risks. Her response was, "You can work from anywhere". We sold both houses in South Florida for ridiculous prices, right before the bubble burst, and moved.

We have been living in Dallas for 16 years, and for most of it I worked from home until I retired in 2020. We never looked back.

Yes, it was a bit spontaneous but I also did my research. My favorite motto is, "No guts, no glory".
