What Is The Worst car You Have Ever Owned?

For me it was a 1976 Cad Coupe DeVille (the last of the big trunk Caddies). It was purchased new and within two months the silver vinyl top started peeling and then the interior molding and trim started peeling, then transmission problems, heating and air conditioning problems. Finally, when the car got some mileage on it like 85,000 miles it started running pretty good and I never had any more trouble until selling it with 120,00 miles on it for $1,200.

1971 Plymouth Satelite Sebring. Traded our 69 Chevelle for it. Simply put... the single dumbest move in trading autos that could possibly be made by a human being!!! The Sebring was one huge piece of junk!!! After about the 4th time in the shop in the first 30 days, we convinced the dealer to take it back. He had already sold our Chevelle. So, we ended up with a 72 Nova... another auto we should have kept and would have been worth big money today.

it has to be the vw van wagon that had that suitcase engine ,Im guessing 1960. Went over R.R.Tracks crossing and the engine fell out.
A couple of 2x4 and I was on my way again.(G)

The one I've got now, a nearly new Fiat Doblo, with wheelchair conversion.

A diesel. noisy, poor ergonomics, rubbish electricals and a turkey to drive, a brick outhouse comes to mind.

Took delivery on Christmas eve and haven;t even done 2,000 miles yet.

Luckily I'm handing it back on the 11 May, and as I said elsewhere, I've got a new Citroen C4 Picasso Exec on order.

1969 Chevy Malibu purchased new. What a rattletrap. Windshield wipers (among other things) never worked correctly. Warranty replaced the wiper switch but problem soon re-occurred. After repeating this procedure with the dealership a few times, I finally gave up. From then on I had to open the hood (bonnet) and connect/disconnect the wiring in lieu of a functional switch. Sold it back to the same dealer soon after and bought a VW Super Beetle elsewhere.

Although I must admit, that V8 engine was very good running and trouble free.

1973 vw rabbit.....it was given to me and I drove it for three months putting several hundred into it ...took it to the scrap yard after three hundred and three months got 35 dollars for it or something like that

1973 AMC Matador Station Wagon. It was a great car when it was running.....unfortunately, it wasn't running very often. It did look nice sitting in the driveway or on the back of a tow truck. It was the embodiment of a "lemon car". When we finally got rid of it, we had 87 service orders on it, ranging from the admittedly trivial to the life-threatening (i.e., the fact that it frequently stalled when turning right and accelerating.........after being told for almost three years that this problem was just a figment of our imagination, we received a recall notice for a tiny little ceramic capacitor that was touching something and cutting off the engine WHEN THE CAR MADE A RIGHT TURN). One time I came out of work and the car wouldn't start. I left it in the parking lot overnight. The next morning it still wouldn't start. When the towtruck driver came, he tried to start it with no success. Official diagnosis? "Owner flooded the engine." Yeah, sure......still flooded 18 hours later.

We had to have the hinges on the back 2-way gate replaced four times because the gate kept falling off when it was opened. We were accused each time of allowing our daughter to swing on the door....uh, no. I valued my daughter a little more than that. Finally, the last time they replaced the hinges and we went to pick it up, the smarmy service manager decided to demonstrate to us the "correct" way to open the rear gate. It promptly broke off the hinges and landed on his foot. They had to call an ambulance for him. I tried to look concerned.....I don't think I succeeded.

We finally went into arbitration and the dealership said we were "chronic complainers". Hell yes, we were. We came to arbitration with an 18-inch tall stack of service orders. We won. They had to buy the car back from us for what the arbitrator judged was a fair price. I didn't think it was a fair price......I think they should have had to give us a pound of their flesh or something, but noooooo.

That's my bad car story.

1986 Buick Skyhawk hatchback, bought new for cash as a wedding gift for my wife.

From day one that thing was a death trap, stalling at various times, completely shutting down at others. It overheated in summer, froze in winter and dealer's choice in the spring and autumn. The wonderful mid-'80's GM clear-coat paint began peeling the moment we drove it off the showroom floor. The brakes required complete overhaul at 25,000 miles, the top end of the engine replaced twice in 60,000 and the tranny (auto) required rebuilding at 30,000.

Never again.

I know U.S. cars generally were terrible in the '70's but didn't realize it extended to the '80's. :(

A used 1954 Plymouth 4-door, my very first car. It was actually pretty good, but the cars since then have all been very good and better than the Plymouth. I drove my sister and nephew from San Diego to Eastern Tennessee in 1955 through a lot of snow, fog and ice and it ran OK. I replaced the Plymouth with a new 1956 Olds Holiday Sedan. Since then, I've been extremely fortunate to have owned some really good cars. My last car (which I still drive) is my dream car, a 1998 Buick Park Avenue Ultra. It has only 14,500 miles on it and my only expenses have been for tires, batteries, motor oil and radiator cooling liquid.

The worst car I ever had was a '65 Renault Dauphine that I bought while in the Army in VA. Had some electrical problems, but the main problem was a transmission shifting fork that would 'stick' in gear, for some reason. Got tired of it, and abandoned it in a church parking lot in Newport News. I took the plates(Alabama) and put them on a Chevy I bought that had a title(Virginia) but no plates. Virginia title...Alabama tags, LOL I was a particularly dumb 18 year old.

I purchased a brand new Toyota Corolla , in 1994 From the very first time I drove the car I got an arm ache trying to keep it on the road, it wanted to go to the right all the time , I had wheel alignment tyres changed nothing changed .. Eventually the front right tyre was wearing strange and the dealership I bought it from said it was caused by me hitting the kerb with the tyres in the same place every time ...what a whole lot of Excuses just to put me off, there again I was a single lady, do had no one to help me tackle the excuses ......I got sick of their excuses and traded the car for a secondhand one, I had traveled less than 3.000 kms in the new Toyota ....

I'm too embarrassed to admit I was stupid enough to buy a used one of a certain disaster of a car. Took it to junkyard after about a year.

I can think of 2 bad cars that I've owned...one was a VW green bug, I bought right out of high school, my poor dad spent many trips to rescue me with that one, the other was A 1990 Cadillac Seville, that was nothing but a money pit.
