What is your ancestral background if I may ask?

Originally, family on father's side were from France (Normandy), but later generations were from the Scottish borders. The clan was well known as border 'Reivers' and were all thought to be left-handed. This is not strictly true as it is now thought that they fought left-handed to give them a tactical advantage. Not sure about Mother's side, but they appear to have all been from the Glasgow area. Goodness knows what other genes crept into the family over the years.

I've traced family to Ireland (counties Cork and Kerry) and England (Norfolk), and family says Germany and Wales. I have a probable Scottish maiden name for an Irish ancestor but haven't yet proven where she came from. My maiden name is Welsh and my mom's maiden name is English. I'm a mutt.

With all of that UK connected ancestry, how did you end up as a non-native US import?

The last of my ancestors to live over here were ggs who left Ireland in 1851 and 1855 and English ones who emigrated about the same time.

In two of my ancestral lines I'm eligible for Daughters of the American Revolution. No written proof though.

I was not eligible for an ancestry visa for either Ireland or UK. I came here as the wife of a UK citizen. I later got UK citizenship which was optional as I already had permanent residency.

My husband's paternal grandfather came from Sligo and he married a highland woman (so our surname is Irish). His mother's side came from Donegal but a few generations back and they all lived in Glasgow. There is some Viking blood in there somewhere - husband has the Viking Disease - Dupuytrens contracture - which gives you knots in the palms of your hands which can get worse as you age, sometimes requiring surgery.

It's so cool to see where we all came from because we are from all over and that is what makes us.

I was thinking about what I posted last night and that was a dumb thing for me to say about Americans. I edited my post. Of course many countries have diversity!! :)
