Your biggest fear as a senior citizen

My father passed at age 65 from miserable cancer.
My mother at age 91 went to bed and never woke up.
My sister at age 93 went to bed and never woke up.
I am 90 and see the inevitable will be coming. I hope it is like mom and sis.
Change your sleep habits might be a wise choice to make 100. Flip the silver dollar every night near bedtime, stay up a couple of hours, take a nap for a couple of hours?

For some of us, the biggest fear is a fart.

That's a tough poll (imo). I don't see my biggest fear on there, so I chose crime, but I'm thinking personal crime, like some thug breaking in the house at night, or aiming a gun at me at the local ATM. I have a firearm, but I fear I'm not as quick as I used to be.
When your farts have lumps, you are in trouble.

It's interesting for me to see in the graph that the second most concerning thing on this forum anyway is Crime... more so than financial issues.

here in the UK as a whole, if this vote would be put to the general public..aside from very small pockets within various UK cities mainly connected with youth crime.. crime in itself is not a major problem for most pensioners... so I believe that this would be given quite a low rating...

OTOH pensioners here are treated diabolically financially.. so this would without doubt be the Number One issue.. maybe equal to health issues.. but certainly both would be the highest on the graph...

Loneliness would likely be the next concern....

For me, living longer means learning more about what is true. And what comes with that is learning how untrue I have been due to ignorance, arrogance, denial and fears. When I think back on them I always feel a wave of embarrasement go through me. I don't like the raw feelings, but I am glad that I can accept its truth, and not just go into denial again.

I don't want to be too sure about myself, and end up putting my foot in my mouth. I always make ammends whenever I say something which proves to be false. Even when I think I recalled something as true, but later remember the actual truth; fearing that I may have mislead someone.

In saying all this, I hate the idea of unknowingly misleading others.

This quote has helped me give myself grace for all the times I’ve been wrong.

Thank you for sharing your wisdom.
I have used the same philosphy while I was a counsellor. It is the main reason why I never got burnt out. After seeing a client, and after work on my way home, I always checked where I could have done better. But most important is knowing that I did my best at the time. As soon as I can acknowledge that, work leaves my mind until the next time I saw a client. It worked for about 25 years (then I retired).

I always walked boldly into any situation. Now I'm only pretending. I fear crime to my person. I feel I have a target on my back labeled 'old woman.' I never let my guard down; never in my life have I let my guard down. I'm a New Yorker. Anything is possible, anytime, anywhere.

I don't really fear things, but I do give some of the things mentioned more thought than I did earlier in life. All along in life I didn't get scared when things happened, but afterward I would think about some of the what ifs that could have been the result.

I think the biggest fear is anticipation. What if? What will I do? Who can I look to for help? Much like the rest of life we deal with the things that come our way. Which is exactly what you will do when you're confronted with decisions that you now fear. You will deal with them. Won't like it but..........you're there. I am not preaching but I will say that I trust the Lord to get me thru. That's me. I don't like getting to this point but I am here. Can't run, can't hide and can't make it go away. I have the Lord and that's enough.

Whether the library will fine me for none return of books after I've snuffed it, or who will take care of my prize lillies.
That's it, I've decided to hang around for at least another 60 years. 😊
