What is your favorite kind of movie?

Radrook's thread got me thinking. I'm not a western movie fan. But I do have a favorite kind of movie- the old Godzilla movies. I love the cry of Godzilla as he smashes through the countryside. And, come on, a guy in a Godzilla suit stomping on models of Tokyo- how can you beat that???

Me too. I love Godzilla. I loved Godzilla Minus One. A modern classic. I consider this the prequel to Godzilla of 1954.

Godzilla Minus One (Christian Movie ...

Anyone seen the new Reagan movie? Is it a realistic portrayal of his life? Worth seeing or should we wait for it on Netflix?

I would have to say my favorite kind of movie is "old." I would rather re-watch something like The Treasure of the Sierra Madre, High Noon, The Four Feathers, Notorious or many others than watch a badly acted, incoherently plotted, CGI-laden mess like they come up with today. And I love old British films like Hobson's Choice and Great Expectations.

Depends on my mood, how tired i am.

Sometimes i want to think (tho most mystery/thrillers disappoint cause i figure out who, how and why by about half thru. The closer it is to the 'reveal' when i figure it out, the more i enjoy it.

But i sometimes like mindless action (as long as no kids or animals are portrayed as getting hurt).

SciFi a favorite genre and since my reading these days is mostly non-fiction--i get my SciFi fix from movies.

When in the mood for laughable fantasy i watch a RomCom.

Anything NOT made and produced in Hollywood.

Follywood Hollywood studios churn out nothing worth watching these days. What happened to all the innovative directors, masterful cinematographers and producers, and creative story-tellers who actually understand and have the talent to convey human emotions and passion, and whose work is inspiring and makes you think and sticks with you for a long time?

I know most of them are dead, but no one took their place. Apparently there were no apprentices and padawans to carry the torches, just a bunch of goons, in it for instant fame and fortune no matter how fleeting. And for the parties and the pools and drugs. They sh*t on their audiences and crap all over source materials, like the writings of Tolkien and the production quality and innovations of Lucas, etc.

I mostly watch foreign films. Some of my favorites are Minus One, Japan; RRR, India; Another Round, the Netherlands, On the Beach at Night Alone, South Korea, I could go on. These countries have totally eclipsed and exceed anything coming out of Hollywood. Gripping, entertaining, compelling, beautiful....worth watching.

I like horror movies best, but I loathe gore and that torture porn sort of stuff, and I refuse to watch movies that have that kind of stuff. That pretty much just leaves mostly paranormal movies like The Conjuring. The pickings are slim.

Other than that, I like documentaries, although those aren't movies and thus don't qualify.

@KSav I agree with you on horror movies. I actually don't really like movies anymore. I wish I could find one that is truly funny and not stupid.

Try British films. They are so much better done than Hollywood. Hollywood only gives you noise, bad music and a lot of computer graphic. British films are for people who have brains and like to think.

I think the big reason for the lack of talent is the smaller pool they're pulling from.

Better talented people don't want to be micromanaged and therefore have no interest in being a part of such an uncreative enterprise such as Hollywood. Many actors have confirmed this.
