What is your idea of a good day out?

On our 45th wedding anniversary we managed to pack in: A champagne breakfast, a three hour trip around London on The Orient Express, an afternoon at the home of Rugby football, (seeing our team lose,) and in the evening, following dinner, a society ball, dressed in all our finery. We still reminisce that day.

My husband and I were avid campers when young. As time went by, we eventually bought our own piece of land. Not long after the cabin was built, then electricity was added along with a well for plumbing. To make a long story short, my idea of heaven is sitting on our beautiful long wooden porch, in my rocker reading a really great book.

That is my dream, to live in a log cabin in the bush. With only the critters for company

Love to walk through the woodlands and forests...love to sit at an outdoor bar and people watch

Love to be near water.. preferably any seaside or beach.. and to be parasailing , followed by lunch or dinner at a beach side restaurant or bar...

Love to swim in an outdoor pool .. don't get much chance of that in the UK but I do every day when I'm abroad..

Love to spend a day driving to places I've never been and walking around taking photos

Love to find a really big old Library or Bookshop , and just stay in there for hours reading and researching.. ( again sadly most of our libraries have shrunk to make way for computers)

Love to be working in my own garden on a beautiful summers day

A nice walk and lunch in a country pub. Visit a castle or stately home.

Bretrick mentions "Revisiting past haunts which I have not seen for 20/30/40 years. Reminiscing"
When we moved back north, Mrs. L and I decided to do just that and revisit places from our early days together. (for those not familiar with Scotland, the A75 road runs southwest to cross the English border west of Dumfries). In past years it passed through small villages and crossed the river Nith in the centre of Dumfries before heading on to Gretna and England. From there through Carlisle and down along winding roads to the Lake district.

What a let down. All the little villages are bypassed, as is Dumfries and the road eventually takes you to the M6 motorway heading south. The Lake district is a big tourist trap and you need a mortgage to pay for parking. Maybe some things are best left as memories.

A nice drive in the country taking as many side roads as possible and enjoying nature. Stopping for lunch that I have brought with me or finding a little restaurant.
Hiking here and there to see waterfalls or streams.

On occasion I do enjoy one day at the casino, noise and all and a nice buffet after. Once a year is enough for me. If we happen to go to the Atlantic city casinos I like to take my metal detector along and go out on the beach early in the morning when it is quiet and all I hear are the waves of the ocean.
