What Is Your Reaction When You're at the Doctor and Blood is Drawn for Testing?

When you go in to have blood drawn at the doctor, what is your reaction? Do you not even think anything of it and have a chat with the nurse? Do you watch when they put the needle in your vein and take your blood? Or are you like me, stiffen up and stress out, turn your head away until they're finished and put on the cotton and bandaid?

I don't go to the doctor very often, but I really dread having my blood drawn for testing. I really used to feel sorry for my mother in law, they always had issues with her finding a good vein. Many times her arm or hand was black and blue, purple and yellow long after the doctor's visit. She said it was very painful, although she had no problem watching them do it.
 

I get blood work once a year and if I didn't take a couple meds, I wouldn't even go to doctors as nothing is really wrong except the arthritis I live with and she can't fix that. I do all my own doctoring -- patient heal thyself..and don't want pharma drugs as they are truly toxic bandaids. My supplements as far as I'm concerned do more good than any of the drugs.

I chat with the nurse as she draws the blood and often look away.

I've been on health support groups (alternative mostly) and learned so so much from members and before the internet I had so many books that I did my research for any health issues I had.

Reading my own lab reports can tell me a lot and so will attack issues with labs come in too low or too high in the range.

I'm a frustrated wanna be naturopathic doctor.
 
I try not to even chat with them Jam, I want them to pay attention to what they're doing. :)
 

Iā€™m ok with it as long as I donā€™t look. Itā€™s not a big deal for me but my husband gets very queasy . His father passes out with needies. Iā€™ve had some tests where they filled 12 viles worth at once. I feit a bit dizzy but was ok. Thatā€™s not the norm though.,
 
I have my blood tested regularly and it dosnā€™t bother me in the slightest, usually my doctor is chatting to me and before he sticks the needle in always says ā€œJust a little scratchā€, which it is, but I donā€™t watch the needle go in !
 
The lab tech and I greet each other and I know the drill. I don't watch the needle go in. They do have a problem finding a good vein but they are very good at what they do and hardly feel it.
 
I chat and don't mind about the needle going in ...I have blood taken done several times a year , but like you MIL , SB... They always have troubel finding a Vein and my arm is always painfully bruised afterwards sometimes for weeks... Ironic that I don't mind the blood taken, yet they beat me up .. LOL
 
I never give it any thought. I DO remember the old, old days when needles were re-sterilized and reused. Today's ultra sharp, single-use needles and vacutainers are a huge improvement.
 
I go to a lab for blood work but it doesn't bother me at all. I have good veins or so Ive been told and the needle goes in smoothly on the first try.

I do watch and and just chit chat with them, depending on how many vials they take....it doesn't take very long.
 
I watch the entire process-but then I am a licensed Phlebotomist. I have never practiced though,other than my Internship. If I were to leave my full time job to practice,I would have had to accept a per diem position (something I did not know before going to school). Anyway,the school I attended really focused on painless blood draws,and I never hurt anyone while drawing their blood. And with the blood draws I get at least 4x per year,I have yet to have anyone hurt me!
 
I am a wimp about having my blood drawn.

I close my eyes until after they are done and have put the band aid or whatever on it.

But when I enlisted in the Air Force they made me a medic anyway. :awman:
