What kind of Covid mask do you wear?

I had bought KN95 masks some time ago, so when I saw on CNN the recommendation to wear a KN95 for protection against OMICRON I went to buy some more, for Joey. The ones I bought before were not in stock. Hmm. I ordered him some brightly colored ones.

Then I read the reviews. Hmm, not adult size, don’t fit well, bad smell. Canceled the order and looked for other masks on Amazon. They have all increased, horribly, in price. I looked at mask, after mask, after mask. Bad reviews for nearly all of them. The ones I half way liked-out of stock. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Finally found one other people have used and the reviews were not too bad. 60 KN95 masks, black, 80 dollars 😳. Ordered them, should come in a couple of days. Called my oldest son, his company makes masks, and asked him to get me some more. In the meantime, these will have to do. If they show up.

CNN, via the President of the US, said the government is ordering KN95 masks and testing kits for everyone in the country-WOW, just WOW. That is going to be some bill. These will be free to the people of the US. 😱. The government better start chopping down all the trees in the country because pretty soon we are going to need wheel barrels full of cash to pay for a loaf of bread.

Anyway. Do you wear the KN95 masks? Where do you buy yours? How much are they? Or do you wear a different kind of mask?

Oh, and do you think the US government can afford to buy these masks and test kits? I do not.

I wear the surgical masks. I wear them too long, but so far so good. I get them free from my son/dil. I had better masks when this whole thing started, the 95 whatever ones. I had left overs from before the pandemic started.
 
We were wearing the masks that are blue on one side. Now, as advised, we wear the KN-95 masks which fit more snugly and are thicker. They were ordered from The Canadian Red Cross. I don't know how much they cost.
 
I wear the paper surgical mask with a cloth mask over it.

I also read where you can put used paper masks in a net laundry bag and put them in your dryer when you do a load of laundry. The steam made from the wet laundry and the hot dryer will clean and disinfect them.
 
In 2017 after the smoky Santa Rosa wildfires pushed smoke all over the SFBA, bought an N95 level 3M respirator mask. Spring 2020 during earliest pandemic weeks while there were no masks available for the public, with glue gun made bulky N95 level masks from HEPA level air filtretes I shipped to all my relatives. Summer 2020 bought a box of disposable surgical masks and in fall three KN95 masks I am now using. Earlier in 2021 added a box of ten cup shaped 3M 8511 N95 respirator masks. They are normally not allowed for COVID-19 purposes however can be fixed by simply gluing a patch of N95+ filtrete material across the square respirator. Thus may still be available because people don't understand they can be made usable. Despite that news media is still spouting not to buy those that reflects how uncreatively pin headed so many are.

I have done the above because it is probable in the future a much worse virus may appear either naturally or developed by a psychopath with CRISPR skills. If so better masks are sure to be in short supply as ordinary people and politicians are once again caught with their pants down. Our COVID-19 experiences for those wise have allowed us practice on what to do in case of virus pandemics however the majority of people have barely paid attention, uninterested in even bothering to educate themselves from available information. Rather just following the masses here say and going back to watching hours of inane tv media.

just the disposable ones, and throw them away as soon as I've used them and have new ones on a daily basis ( blue-pink-black-yellow) .. masks are really not mandated too much here now, although supermarkets prefer you to wear one, most are not concerned if we don't.. but I wear one always in any indoor public area.. or sometimes double up, if I'm going to be where there's a crowd... I've also got a lot of cloth masks.. and just one KN95 which I got the first year of the Pandemic which I haven't worn since then
 
I wear the same ole' black mask for the last 2 months. I tell people that and they seem to get mad! Can't understand it. Some folks sure get upset easily or do they just have a short fuse because of all these restrictions. The last time I was in the liquor store looking for my apricot brandy, they gave me a whole box (20X) of NK95. Don't like how they look so they are just sitting in a box in my pantry. You might say I'm waiting for all of this to pass and it will pass. Bad news for those that want Covid 19 to continue on and on.

I have some N95 masks which I can not wear right now due to the facial surgery. But I understand they are hard to breathe in so I doubt Joey would wear them. Otherwise I’d give them to him. I hope the KN 95 masks I ordered are “good” ones.

It is harder to breathe in the KN 95 masks, as they are thicker and more fitted .. but, that is why they give the wearer more protection. I find that if I'm walking around a lot, I have to pull it off my nose now and again (away from other people). In warmer weather, it will be uncomfortable. However, I persevere.

My Joey said he could breathe better in the KN95 mask than the others. I think because it was bigger than the surgical ones so more room, and so his oxygen fit better as well. But the N95’s have two straps, a “cup” and fit tightly so I doubt they would work for him.

I also saw, on Amazon, a KN94 mask. Didn’t read about it, but be careful when ordering that you don’t get this one or one of those KN95’s that people are having issues with
 
I've been wearing the cheap Blue paper-type ones (only when shopping indoors as required here). I think they were $8.95/50 last year.
I spray each one with alcohol on both sides after each use. I have no interest in any upgrades.

I found I was getting really bad headaches when I wore the KN 95 masks. .... Couldn't go walking with them at all.
I went back to just 3ply cotton/copper washable masks that I've had for a while now.
I just try to avoid coming in close contact with people.
 
How times have changed! I remember at the very beginning of wearing masks, N95 masks were in short supply and were being reserved for medical personnel. People were being vilified if found wearing a N95 mask and not in the medical profession. Really nasty things were said about that on the forums. A lot of people had N95 masks at home that they got from work and were afraid to wear them for fear of being a target of zealots. Anyone with a N95 mask was supposed to donate it to medical personnel. My husband had one he used when mowing...they really wouldn't have wanted that one!
 
To be clear in simple words.

The reason the CDC and WHO have moved to these higher level protection masks is because last year the reason for masking was to reduce possible viruses an infected person could spew into the atmosphere breathing out around other people. Especially since some people were asymptomatic not aware they were sick. So such was not much to protect the mask wearer breathing in viruses from others because we were all supposed to be vaccinated. Those lower level masks inadequately protect the wearer breathing in.

The new purpose is to not only reduce our breathing out protecting others but also now to protect the wearer from breathing in viruses from others. Because our vaccinations are no longer strongly effective against the Omicron strain and new vaccines are not yet available, we are no longer protected by whatever vaccinations alone. In the future, if new vaccines effective against Omicron and other mutations become available, we who are so vaccinated may again be allowed to mingle with others indoors without wearing a mask.

You may pull your KN95 mask off your nose only after accurately measuring the 6-foot distance from others with a digital tape measure. :ROFLMAO:
 
Depends on where I’m going and for how long. If more than 15 minutes in a store, I now wear the KN95. I don’t have many so am rationing them. Otherwise, if just rushing in to drop off something, I wear the surgical mask.
