What kind of vehicle would you buy?

My 2012 convertible will turn 30,000 miles in about another week. It should last another 14 years at which time I will be 100.

The dealers send me new car propaganda, but there are no convertibles in it.

I would get a Toyota or Nisan truck, last two domestic trucks sucked big time. Picked up a Jeep Grand Cherokee which really surprises me a couple of months ago. Great machine so far, Diesel , incredible mileage, and great on the back roads.
A surprise of late, the guys that work on the domestics told me to go import....o_Oo_O😈

I've got a trusty old 1997 Dodge Dakota....just turned 104K miles. It looks and runs like almost new, and I intend to keep it for as long as I can drive. Our car is a 2006 Chevy Impala LTZ....with about 80K miles....and it too is in great shape. My wife never drives the truck, and she is having increasing difficulty driving the Chevy....it's almost too big. There's a big auto show in Kansas City every Spring, so if this Virus permits, we may go spend a day at that show, and look at something like a compact SUV.

If I were more certain about the future and it looked rosy for me, I'd get one of the low end Teslas. However I'll probably end up getting the lease buyout deal for my Chevy Volt.

My wife has had five or six Camrys in a row and loves them. I like them as well. I'm fairly sure the last few have all been manufactured in the US and they have all been fine.

That Toyota Camry looks awfully nice! I've heard from a few people that Hondas are the best vehicles now. I've never had either ones, though. I think I'd buy a Chrysler--they are well built and last a long time, too.

My husbands words are... you can drive an import for years and everything remains tight and rattle-free, but within a few years after buying an American Built vehicle, everything is falling apart, it rattles, it squeaks, and it feels like it's old and worn.

I'm happy with my reliable 1993 Ford Explorer and 2001 Dodge diesel truck. If I could find a well cared for and affordable motor home with a 350 Chevy engine, I'd probably buy it.

Does anyone have opinions re an SUV vs a sedan? DH doesn’t like SUVs, not that we’re in the market. I’d like to be up higher and people with limited mobility say they’re easier to access.

I can't answer your question about SUV's, Jules, but I can tell you that I love hubby's truck.

Easy to climb into, you sit up nice and high, you feel safer, and there's more vehicle to protect you in the event of an accident.

I can't see why and SUV wouldn't be the same.

I love my 2006 Ford F150 Lariat, sitting with 313000 Km's... and good for another 200,000... I'd buy a new Ford but cannot afford it the same model like this one... Way over priced...

But a few things to think about when buying a new one... Things that are high costing in today's vehicles... and I am seeing and hearing about it a lot these days... Thieves are stealing headlights and taillights cuz they are HUGE money to replace... My niece has a brand new Toyota, whatever the new one is... But they stole her headlights, $3000 to replace, and a 5-week wait... Buddy of mine was in the garage looking for tail lights for his 2020 Ram, $1700 to replace... Things I'd be asking if I was buying new today...

I’ve always been happy with the Fords,
But now trying all the models
I had the Skoda Yeti a few years ago, very nice ,
I now drive the Mercedes , ok,
I’m hoping to get the toyota Lexus next year....😊

I prefer the older pickups. To me they are ideal. I have
71 chev c20 Longhorn (9’bed)
78 Ford F100 (302)
96 F150 (4.9 w Five speed) last year ford built the in-line 6.
All these are great reliable and serviceable vehicles. I have others but I love the pickups. I recently had the tires balanced on the 96. I saw a group of employees gathering around the 96 as it set in the lot. I asked what the problem was. None of them could drive a manual trans. I pulled it in for them. Once there they ask if they could see the engine. No one had ever seen the old Ford in line 6 and was amazed at how much room there was in the engine compartment to work. Technology has changed vehicles greatly.

Our next (and possibly, last) vehicle, will be a Honda CRV. We had one a few years ago. I like sitting up higher, and it saved us from injury when we were rear-ended on the highway.

My 5'2" wife was increasingly having difficulty climbing up into the Nissan Xterra 2WD SUV that we used to have. We traded for a Chrysler convertible and that works fine. We had sold our travel trailer so we didn't need the towing capacity any more.
It is our 17th convertible. We still enjoy a ride in the open air on a nice day.

The SUV will be more bigger and spacious jules.....so your choice really

Thank you Aunt Marg!!

I can't even imagine living that kind of luxury and extravagance! How fun that would be!

Currently hunting a replacement truck.... 09-13 Chevy/GMC 2500, prefer diesel to replace or 05 1500 with 250K miles.
Car, would probably go with another Jetta.... family has put around 550K on 3 so far

I'm with you on the luxury, Dees.

Picture #5, the one that shows the sleek and modern grey interior with fireplace, wow!

I could easily enjoy travel if I could roam the land in such class and comfort. :)

I'm happy with my little Toyota Corolla; it takes me where I need to go and is a smooth ride. So smooth that I almost fell asleep behind the wheel while coming back from Corpus Christi, Texas a few years ago. I am in no need of a new vehicle and neither is hubby. We bought both vehicles in 2015. My car has 13,000+ miles only.
