What little habits do you remember your grandparents doing

It just came to me today when I was about to swap my cardigan for my coat.. that my granny always had a cardigan hanging on the coat hook by the door, so that when she got home, she'd take her coat , hat and shoes off and swap them for this warm cardigan which hung there.., it was always the same routine.


Do you remember any little habits of your grandparents.. or even your parents as they aged..?

I only knew my maternal grandma and I didn’t see her very often. I guess my best memory of a ‘habit’ is that she always wore a corset and though she was blind, she could lace it up lickity-split

I'm the opposite CS... I met my Maternal Granny twice.. she was horrible... but I spent a lot of time with my paternal Granny..

Well, I never knew any of my grandparents and frankly I always felt cheated. They all died before I was born as I was one of the last grandkids. You make a good point, dolly, not all grandparents are wonderful. If you have any good memories of your grands, cherish them!

My Italian, maternal grandmother had a habit of cooking great food for large meals around the holidays. I never met a harder working person in my life.

I only met one grandmother once and didn’t notice any habits. All I know was she used plain ivory soap to wash her hair and cut her grass with long shears

I'm the opposite CS... I met my Maternal Granny twice.. she was horrible... but I spent a lot of time with my paternal Granny..

Did she know how mean her son could be.

she did take me to live with her when I was 4 until I was 6.. but I had to go back because I was already a year past the time I should have started school

My maternal Grandma was my next door neighbor, so I was there everyday. I remember her wearing a sweater to stay warm just about all year around, especially in the car with the air conditioner. But then Dad always had the car air on high & froze everyone. I always got my own pineapple upside down cake on my birthday that I didn't have to share with everyone else. To this day, I still miss her.

I didn't see my paternal Grandma too much, usually around the holidays. For some reason I didn't take to her.

Lilac, my maternal grandmother lived literally around the corner from us at one house we lived ..about 300 yards.. she never came to visit...
