What "Mental Exercises" do you do to keep your brain in shape?

Transcendental Deep Meditation.
Thee brain's control center functions in an integrated manner
in a simple, effortless and natural and spontaneous procedure
towards greater and greater charm and happiness.
The nervous system must become refined and purified for the
higher states of consciousness to develop.

Probably. We all need to use more of our brains....all ages. Also learning anew 2 handed activity. Crochet, knit, whittling. Etc. Its not to make something but to do it. The process of learning something new and two handed is something that really wakes up the brain and relaxes it at the same time.
Yes, I use both hands when sculpting or woodworking. I understand people who have had strokes
and have full use of both hands adapt and recover more quickly. It's not transcending but it's
an interesting way to utilize brain function more readily.

I design and build furniture. I'm on a break from woodworking during the cold weather, so I'm learning a CAD system to help me with the designs and so I don't make as many mistakes during the building process.

Trying to make calculations in my shop on the workbench hasn't worked out all that well. I make too many mistakes. With CAD, I can work out all the dimensions in advance on the computer and then focus on my woodworking skills in the shop. Or that's the theory, anyway. :)

I read, play word games both on and offline. I crochet….learned online and I also meditate twice daily
I crochet too, but only using the double stitch to make afghans, scarves, wraps, etc. I like that stitch because it's verstile and I can do it practically without looking, at this point. I've seen some beautiful pattern work done with crochet but I don't have the focus for it.

I will. :) - I took WWF2 off my phone recently to try and get another app on, but that didn't work and I've been meaning to put WWF2 back.

I'm familiar with chess.com and greenchess.net (I think), which has variants, but rarely play online as I need to have the pieces in my hands, be able to walk around the board. Spatial thinking is not my forte, which is why I'm not a great chess player and also why I should and do play it. That and I just freaking love the game. Love it. :)

I am, "Medusa eimai i" on WWF2 if anyone's up for a game. :)
That user name "Medusa eimai i" did not work. Try finding me at "Shansen404"

All that hits on my WWF2 on Zynga is "Medusa"
Huh. Yet another way I'm having trouble finding myself. lol I'll find you at, Shansen404 and when I do, would you mind letting me know where I am? :/

Wait, K, found you and I think I'm, "Eimai.i.medusa," though it's printed in larger letters, right next to my icon, as, "Medusa eimai i." Weird.
Anyway, I'm there. :)

Keeping your body physically fit is important. Keeping your brain/mind in shape is important too. What do you do to keep your brain in shape?
I write, build websites, read both fiction and non-fiction books, work difficult jigsaw puzzles, meditate.
I meditate, read, and play video games. You have to be quick and sharp to keep advancing to the next level. 😁 (y)

I saw a report on tv that showed all the data and personal info that Chinese made computer games are stealing from the users. I reported that to Amazon and asked for some USA made word games. They said both Wordscapes and Words With Friends were owned by US companies. So those are now the only two I play. I use an Amazon fire tablet which is limited to Amazon apps.

Great! Were connected and playing our first game on WWF2!!

I like Wordle because there is no time limit. Sometimes I hit pause while watching Jeopardy. (Not that it helps that often.) It takes me longer to retrieve information than it once did. Remember when teenagers liked to listen to music while doing their homework? Now they say that could be helpful. It might be better to block out something you find pleasing than to try to block out silence or kitchen noises. I also notice that once I stop trying to "remember that name" it comes to me.
Any thoughts on this?

One of the perks of the Alzheimer/Dementia Study I'm in, deals with the 'Games'
the Grad students come up with.

I'm sure they have fun coming up with their own take of common games.
Some are a hit, some leave me bewildered, but I give them all a try.
I know they are 'graded' on my imput, so I tend to be kind.

The study also suggest the normal ones like Luminosity, MindMate, etc.

I personally enjoy board games and Backgammon is my favorite.
Wife and I play a lot. ( and as I have stated before, she's got my number and pulls no punches!)
