What religion was Christopher Columbus?

Thank you for posting this, debodun. You provided me with an hour or so's amusement. I have had a life long interest in the voyages of discovery. Incidental to that, I have read quite a bit on Columbus, the man. There has always been some suspicion of the possibility of Columbus being Jewish. Your article contains more specific details than any I have read previously. I just did a quick tour of the Web. I did find one source indicating that the two "Jewish" financiers mentioned were apparently the actual financiers of the voyage. The kicker is that they were Christians converts, and highly placed at the Spanish court. They asked for, and received permission from Isabella to finance the voyage. So it was not actually the Queen's money. I have not gone deep enough to verify the underlying sources. My personal guess is that your article is probably correct. Columbus is both praised as a hero, and condemned as an inhuman monster. He certainly wasn't a very likable character. In the end, he was just like the rest of us.The result of the time, place and circumstances of his birth.

It's a little known fact that ole Chris was a Jehovah Witness as were most of the crew on the Santa Maria. They all converted when they were in the Azores.

Personally, his monsterness far outweighs anything else he did. His religion: Sadism.

Eight years of parochial school had me convinced he was Roman Catholic. I guess I still am. It's hard to erase what the nuns have drilled into you.
