Inside me, there is an artist fighting to get out. So far she hasn't been successful.
I hope you don't think I'm being rude, but are you on the autistic spectrum ?I don't get tongue tied, I simply tend to speak concisely and that's how I wish others would speak.
I do exactly that.. I can engage in small talk as long as it's interesting. Don't tell me in any sentences that take longer than one minute about your kids or your grandkids, because my brain will switch off... and don't talk to me about Soaps... that's really mind-numbing. I used to work in a place where people just spent every working day talking abut tv shows they'd watched.. and or their grandkids.. arrrggghhh!!The reason that some are good at "small, meaningless" talk is that it's not meaningless to them; they really do care about the weather, food prices, what size shoes a grandkid now wears, etc.
I wish I were better at small talk; what I've learned to do over the years is get the convo going by asking about their jobs or families (especially kids/g'kids) and just paste an interested look on my face and listen. Sure, I don't like being bored but sometimes I like being around other people even if they're talking about something I'm not interested in.
What skill or talent do you wish for ?
Don't wish to get a competent contractor, take the steps to locate one the intelligent way. Properly interview and follow up on references, like most other homeowners would do.When I grow up(assuming that that ever happens) I want to be able to stucco work. I have about 500 sq. ft. of stucco on a room addition that needs to be re-done, thanks to a particularly inept stucco contractor.
...it's unlikely that I'll bring this wish to fruition, as my motivation to actually perform this task is at an all time low ebb. Maybe I should just rub the genie's lantern and wish to get a competent contractor to do the job.![]()
Well thanks so much for your snippy "advice", apparently you're butt-hurt from looking foolish in another thread and seeking retribution.Don't wish to get a competent contractor, take the steps to locate one the intelligent way. I don't believe so, though I recognize I have some spectrum tendencies.I hope you don't think I'm being rude, but are you on the autistic spectrum ?
see that's another one I should have really concentrated on learning. When I was at school I had sewing classes. I was making a dress from a pattern.. I started it when I fist started senior school, and it still wasn't finished years later when I left school. I'm absolutely useless at craft type things...Years and years ago, my mom offered to pay for me to take the Singer Sewing Courses. This was in addition to my parents paying for my college and university education as well. But dummy me, I said no. I could have done so much by making my own clothes, possibly creating my own sewing business and now, I could still be working part time either being a seamstress or doing alterations, making some money in my retirement.

There are so few businesses that do sewing and clothes alterations around here that the few that there are can charge a lot and never run out of work.see that's another one I should have really concentrated on learning. I can hammer things, chop wood, paint, make old furniture look new again... I can even knit and crochet but use a sewing machine?.. no... nor can I do these ''girly type'' crafts like flower arranging and card making et al...
they do here too...sometimes it costs more to have the garment altered than it did to buy it.. but on average it costs about half the price depending on what has to be done... for example to take up the sleeves of a jacket at my nearest place which is in the next town...it's £30.. ( $38 USD) to take up the hem of trousers/jeans etc.. £20.....to hem curtains.. £50.00There are so few businesses that do sewing and clothes alterations around here that the few that there are can charge a lot and never run out of work.
but guitar plying is great as well..I can play a guitar well enough, but I wish I had a great singing voice.
Mobilman44...I too wanted to learn to play a guitar. I played in a school band for eight years and know how to read music and play the French Horn. The Horn is not a good solo instrument. So, when I retired, I purchased a Classical Guitar it is a beautiful wood guitar with no electronics in it. The strings are partially metal and partially nylon. Has a nice sound and is easy to play, not so hard on the fingers.Over the last few years, I've wanted so much to be able to play the guitar. I know a great deal about them, but my hands cannot work together to play. I had three years of piano lessons and never could get the right and left hands to work independently. Yet, I can type with the best of them....which of course requires the use of ONLY one finger at a time.
I love music, and watch an awful lot of concerts and just envy the Justin Haywards and Keith Richards and Willie Nelsons of the world. There is just so much musical talent out there, and I need to just be happy I can listen to them.
So that's my yearning, what is yours???
