What skill or talent do you wish for ?

I wish I had a skill to learn modern technology
( computer stuff ) Unfortunately it doesn’t come easy for me.

Note: small talk bores me to death. I’m not good at it cause I don’t care about it

Marie5656: My parents wanted me to learn the piano. We had Nuns at our school and this particular one took an instant dislike to me. We didn't even own a piano and my homework was on a paper keyboard. I hated it and she took a special delight in hitting me across the knuckles every time I hit a wrong note on her piano. . I only lasted 3 weeks and refused to go back.
When my boys wanted to learn a musical instrument, I let them choose which one. There was a school brass band at their school and the boys both mastered their chosen instrument. The eldest son went on to win 1st place at Eisteddfods, and eventually played in famous symphony orchestras. The younger son still plays but just for fun. I never had to force them to practise, and it paid off in the end.

Sorry for your unfair music lessons.
It’s great that you gave your boys a fair chance at music lessons and even more grand that they did something with it.
What instruments did they choose to play ? Some kids get a choice where others don’t.

The eldest started with the Cornet and progressed to the Euphonium, it had a beautiful sound, and this is where he shone, eventually ended up with the Tuba. Other son started off with a Cornet and eventually played a Tenor Horn, it too had a lovely sound. I always tell people when they ask, "What instrument should they play? and I tell them," Let them choose." No wonder children get fed up with the instrument they never wanted to play. The eldest son is now a Symphony Orchestra Conductor. Very well respected in his field. Travelled the world and has met many famous people - Pavarotti being his favourite.

Cornet- the short looking trumpet. They do have a lovely sound. The Euphonium is like a miniature tuba. Both instruments are beautiful sounding. My brother plays the trumpet and a friend of mine who was about 4’10” played the tuba. The instrument was bigger than her.
I play soprano and alto saxophone.

I agree that one has to like the instrument to do well. I’ve played sax since 1973. I took summer school to learn saxophone so I wouldn’t be put on clarinet. I really didn’t want to play clarinet so your words rang so true to me.

I do like your choice of instrument. A friend plays the Clarinet and another the French Horn, all great sounding instruments.

Oh I love the sound of the French horn. Thats a lovely sounding instrument. Then again I like most instruments . There’s actually very few instruments I dislike. My favourite instruments are piano and guitar cause you can play your own accompaniment on them. I bought a guitar for my husband years ago and completely surprised him with it. I saved change for years until I could afford it and he loves it. I told him that I think I ruined the door to our van and when he went out to look at it, he found the guitar.

What a lovely surprise for him, nothing nicer than giving a gift to someone who would really appreciate it. I bet you are number 1 in his eyes. 🥰

I wish I could draw cartoons that I would put in an online public blog because I am regularly thinking about how ridiculous and ironic so much of what occurs in our modern lives and world is. And that includes political and behavioral cartoons.

Am an expert at fine handwork post process editing photography and also spent years working with tiny delicate microelectronics parts on pcbs through stereo microscopes. Can hand trace with great skill. But never developed a drawing from inner visual mental picture skill. About all I can draw is stick people.

Am another person that never developed skill playing any musical instruments. But that is balanced by decades of freestyle dancing that just flows out like second nature. Have danced so much, that due to neural plasticity, I don't even need to be playing music so can do so anywhere, anytime, in front of any.

Sometimes I wish I could perform with a band. I'm a composer, producer, recording artist who doesn't perform. Part of my problem is nerves, but the bigger issue is my ADD. I lose focus and get distracted very easily. I was choir director and played organ in my mother's church for a very brief time when I was in my 20s. I hated it but really whipped that choir into shape until they sounded very good.

Whenever I wish I could perform, I remember the stories my BFF tells me. She's a professional pianist who has toured the country with famous artists and as musical director for theater groups. Touring can be quite tiring and some situations are downright aggravating. Being conscious of these things reigns in my desire to perform in public, especially at this age.
