What songs did you sing to your children...

Ride a horsey, ride a horsey, goin' down town. Ride a horsey, ride a horsey, BOOM fall down.

How much is that doggy in the window? The one with the waggly tail. How much is that doggy in the window. I do hope that doggy's for sale.

Everybody loves a baby, that's why I'm in love with you, pretty baaaaby, pretty baaaaby

I love you, a bushel and a peck. A bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck.

So long, farewell, Auf wiedersehen, goodnight. I hate to go And leave this pretty sight. Adieu, adieu To yieu and yieu and yieu
I flit, I float, I fleetly flee, I fly. ...The sun...has gone...to bed and so must I....Goodnight...goodniiight...goodniiiiight...

Oh let the sun shine in, face it with a grin, smilers never lose, and frowners never win. So let the sun shine in, face it with a grin. Open up your heart and let the sun shine in.

Coulter's candy. Robert Coltard made an aniseed flavoured sweet that he sold round the border towns of Scotland. "Coultar's Candy" (or Ally Bally Bee) was an early sort of advertising jingle for the sweet.. Coltard died penniless and was buried in a paupers grave, but the song lingers on. The original recipe was lost, but a version of Coulter's Candy is available in 'retro' confectioner's shops.

First verse goes...
Ally bally, ally bally bee,
Sittin' on yer mammy's knee,
Greetin' for a wee bawbee,
Tae buy some Coulter's candy.

Add this to my posts 12 and 28.
Sugar Pie Honey Bunch by the Four Tops
I used to sing it to my children but had forgotten
until tonight as I was singing it to my dog Blu

Sugar pie hunny bunch, you know I love you so
Mmmmmmm, I can't help myself

My dog loves that song. I found it on Youtube and he knows several of the words: dog, doggie, window, tail, bark, bunny, kitty, and walk.

I play it on my phone because he likes to look out the window while he listens to it. He's watching for rabbits, I think. We have so many wild rabbits in our yard, it is amazing. And Aidan knows where they all nest. My daughter avoids those places because we like the rabbits and don't want Aidan to kill them.

Kumbaya, The Marines Hymn, Summertime, She'll Be Coming 'Round the Mountain, Itsy Bitsy Spider, The Farmer in the Dell, Hush Little Baby, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, You Are My Sunshine, and many more. If I couldn't remember all the words, I'd make them up.

When our fathers were in the Air Force and Army, my husband and I learned The Marine Corp Hymn (as it was called then). I just looked it up and the Air Force has a song (Off We Go into the Wild Blue Yonder). I heard it many times during my childhood, but had forgotten it.

I also sang them I Wish I Was in Dixie Land. It was just a song everyone in the South knew, and I didn't think a thing about it at the time. I did wish I Was in Dixie Land, because we lived in New England and I was terribly homesick for a decade. Our dog's registered name, when I was a kid, was Merry Suzanne of Dixieland. All the dogs from that breeder were "of Dixieland". We called her Susie. My dad and I wanted to change her registered name to Sirius Sue. My mother, who was a German citizen at the time, had no idea about how things were in the US. She learned quickly though, as did my siblings and I!

During three months of Colic I walked the floor and sang 'Red River Valley.'
