In the 60's when I should have been paying attention to the music explosion, I was getting into an earlier time as well as enjoying the art of ballroom dancing. The ten disciplines of Latin & Ballroom are all strict about what you can and can't do, no heel leads and all that. For a bit of fun and no rules, we used go to a gym and practice what became known as, Aerial Rock & Roll. You might find us somewhere on 8mm home movie film but I doubt it.
All those gymnastic lifts were very energetic, so when Billy Elliott the movie came along and Marc Bolan released "I love to Boogie," we would choose that song to dance to, simply because it was so short. That's how I know it word for word. The second line of the first verse must have raised an eyebrow or two:
"Belinda Mae Fender's got a Cadillac Bone
Jenny lost her cherry walking all the way home."
About that acrobatic Rock & Roll, we certainly were never in Yuval & Nathalie's league, but just watch them, it brings back memories.
