What sort of handbag or purse do you use?

My wife has gotten a leather thing with zip pockets that can be worn over one shoulder. I call it her holster. This is good as I more and more wind up carrying it along with a back pack for her extra bottle of water and blood pressure monitor. I don’t mind being her mule I’m just glad I don’t have to look fem in the process.

Oh, the men that think there is a rattle snake in there should they dare the to enter the sacred place. Truth is we ladies have a stash of tissues, rolaids, band aides, pain relievers. I got a lot of giggles at the contents of my purse but they always stopped laughing when they needed somethiing.
Here’s a question. When we go anywhere at all, except out for the evening, she carries a fairly good sized bag with anything and everything in it. BUT, when we go out for the evening, she carries a small bag the size of small letter envelope and puts her big bag on the floor in the bag seat. She has a couple of those small bags. Some have a long chain, some don’t. Some are gold in color and some are silver in color and 1 or 2 of them are made of leather. I have seen a red one and a black one. I never questioned it as to what’s the difference. Don’t they all do the same thing? Why so many handbags. And, shy when women buy a new pair of shoes, they gave to buy a new pocketbook? And who is Michael Kohr? I never understood pocketbooks.

My daughter loves to give me designer handbags, which I would never purchase for myself. I accept them
gracefully, and use each one until she gives me the next one. She knows my taste :)

@911 Purses do the same thing differently. A large purse carries a lot of items a lady might consider day-to-day necessities when she leaves the house: her wallet, sunglasses, tissues, pen, compact, lipstick, comb, mints, hand sanitizer, hand lotion, Swiss army knife, phone, water bottle, etc. 👜 Not all of that can fit into a small bag. She carries a smaller bag when going to dinner because she doesn't need all the things she usually carries for the few hours she's out at dinner. Perhaps just her comb, lipstick, compact, tissues, credit card, and phone. 👛 Just as your wife does, I've also taken my large bag with me and left it in the car.

A lot of women have so many purses because they simply like purses. I don't think a new pair of shoes necessitates a new purse, but some women do.

Michael Kors is an American fashion designer. He is the chief creative officer of his brand, Michael Kors, which sells men's and women's ready-to-wear, accessories, watches, jewelry, footwear, and fragrance. 🙂

The normal-size bag contains things for various contingencies. The tiny evening purse contains only what's needed that evening. Different ones match different dresses.

Don't blame us. I was wearing a dress to go somewhere with my boyfriend, and I was taking my usual beat-up purse. My boyfriend criticized my purse. The only other purse I had was an evening purse. So I had to change into a dressier dress. Then my boyfriend said I was a typical woman, changing my clothes at the last moment. 😖

There are some people you can never please.

The other ladies have answered well your questions. Every bag has a specific use to a lady. I just don't feel the need to have every option. I do have a couple of small evening bags but they are tucked away a i no longer need them.

I imagine you let him know that is your prerogative. I don’t blame you if you didn’t also tell him it is ours. 😉

I can't tell you how many hours I spent shopping with my ex for the perfect purse. Store after store ,after store, after store. I had to be big, but couldn't look big. I had to have lots of pockets, but not too many pockets. It had to be brown, but not black, but it couldn't be brown, but more black. It had to have a clip close, not a latch, but a latch was better than a clip. Thousands of hours and thousands of purses that didn't measure up She wanted a bag just like the old one, only different. AAAAAAAUUUHHHH!!!!!!

Well. I have a wallet. I have several…but prefer one over the other 4 or so. All are years old…except the main wallet which I just purchased with a gift card I received two years ago. That darn wallet cost me 165.00. I am not lying. It is a simple wallet by Frye. Without the gift card I would never of bought it. The wallet it replaced cost 70.00 from the same store…lasted 18 years. I used to just stick everything in my jeans till I was about 40…

As some of you know, I have a serious handbag addiction which had led to a collection that now spans two closets. I don't have one specific type of bag that I carry. I just pick one based on my mood, my outfit, or the weather.

I have given some bags to family (daughter and nieces) and have sold a number of them on Poshmark.

I stopped carrying a handbag/purse/pocketbook/whatever you call it long ago. It's just one more thing to keep track of. I keep phone in one back pocket of my Levi's, driver's license, debit card, in the other.

You couldn't exactly call me stylish these days...

I have friends who have dozens of bags, like you, and switch out the current one for a different one all the time. Some of the choices are seasonal, some are to match a current outfit, some choices are just whimsy.

I can’t wrap my head around that, primarily because changing everything out of my purse is a major endeavor! I have a lot stored in my purse and its pockets, I know exactly where everything is, which pocket my chapstick is, where my nail clippers and file are, the bandaids, my business cards, where my phone goes etc. it takes me many days to get used to a new purse when I finally have to switch!!

Hi @Ronni. I think because I have been doing the handbag switching for decades, it seems easy to me. My lesser passion is for wallets but that is more of an endeavor for me to switch everything over.

Reading this makes me want to look for a new purse - similar style to what I have now, just in a different colour.
This is the one I just got. It’s my 4th Travelon. It was a real bargain at half price. Very strange that black was the least expensive colour. It’s just that bit larger than the one I’ve been carrying, which is what I was looking for.

Prada. Sometimes. I carry all kinds of bags. I like satchel bags best but also shoulder bags and began carrying a cloth shoulder bag that looks like something I would have carried in the 1970s but it was so lightweight and I needed that.
