What T.V. Shows Had You Hooked Even Before The First Episode Ended?

I tried watching Homicide: Life On The Streets

It ran for 7 seasons, 122 episodes, from 93-99. The homicide unit characters were just cool. I liked all of them. I also liked the grittiness of the filming, as explained in the second paragraph below.

While it featured an ensemble cast, Andre Braugher emerged as a breakout star through his portrayal of Detective Frank Pembleton. The show won TCA Award for Outstanding Achievement in Drama in 1996, 1997, and 1998. It also became the first drama ever to win three Peabody Awards for Drama, those being in 1993, 1995, and 1997. It received recognition from the Directors Guild of America Awards, Humanitas Prize, Q Awards, Writers Guild of America Awards and Primetime Emmy Awards. In 1997, the fifth-season episode Prison Riot was ranked No. 32 on TV Guide's 100 Greatest Episodes of All Time.

Homicide's purpose was to provide its viewers with a no-nonsense, police procedural-type glimpse into the lives of a squad of inner-city detectives. As opposed to many television shows and movies involving cops, Homicide initially opted for a bleak sort of realism in its depiction of "The Job", portraying it as repetitive, spiritually draining, an existential threat to one's psyche, often glamour- and glory-free—but, nonetheless, a social necessity. In its attempt to do so, Homicide developed a trademark feel and look that distinguished itself from its contemporaries.

I was sorry that Andre Braugher passed away in 2023, aged 61. His death was attributed to lung cancer, with which he had been diagnosed a few months prior.

It's funny that I haven't seen a single person mention Seinfeld . 😄 But I don't think I've read all of the posts. I watched this hilarious comedy for a period of time, long after it had become popular. The dry wit was on a level unlike any program I've ever watched.
It took me about a season to really fall for Seinfeld. I thought the first few episodes were a little shaky. I think the first season only had a few episodes. Around midway through the second season I got hooked and it became "must see" for me.

As you know Larry David was on a lot but many never noticed as sometimes in costume or a voice .

Interesting read and I believe they nailed it. I was sorry to hear of his passing too. May he R.I.P.

I can’t remember how mainly seasons I watched. I might have missed some. Maybe that’s why the ending didn’t make sense. Maybe I’ll watch it again. There’s so many choices of things to watch.,
Patty I'm glad you said the ending didn't make sense because that's how I felt. Maybe at some point I'll ask the internet to explain that ending. I'm sure somebody, somewhere posted about it. And you are right. There's literally too many things to watch! 🖥 👀 @MarkinPhx

I was hooked on the 1936 Flash Gordon serials when they were broadcast on TV in 1951 when I was nine.

I remember so well rushing my mother & sister from the beach so I could watch this! Loved this show! I think it was on 4pm. Remember rushing past the park I still hang out in, not wanting to miss a minute.

I've thought of this memory before, it is so vivid.
