I have to admit I have been given a few extra chances because of my disability, but in most everything I still had to work just as hard as the next person to get where I am today.

Our Founding Fathers believed we were all entitled to "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness."

To that, I'd add education, clean air and water, and perhaps the right to live without another country bombing the crap out of you.

I see those as things wisely provided to help make you a self-reliant tax paying individual.

Things you have and are paying back with every paycheck you earn. A good thing both for us and you!

The world may not have owed them to you, but the world is better off for having helped.

You seem a smart and self motivated person who would have done fine without, but hopefully they helped a little.

I am sure you did, probably a bit harder.

The world doesn't owe me anything but perhaps a stinky bucket full of individuals owe me.
Your thread is in the humor section. My guess is that you'll get mostly serious answers.

This has always been my argument for universal health care including meds and equipment that will help people function. In the log run it is good for society as well individuals.

The world "owes" me the "opportunity" to lead a responsible and productive life. Whether I take advantage of that opportunity, or not, is solely my choice. IMO, anyone who is not physically or mentally disabled, who thinks the world owes them a living, can find "sympathy" in the dictionary.

With having Bacterial Meningitis as a newborn, I not only became deaf but also had several mild learning disabilities along the way which made things for me to learn just a little bit longer than I guess the average person. I suppose having the extra chances and the extra help did help me along and didn't let me slip behind so much as I did see a lot of my friends do along the way towards college. Some of my friends growing up elected against going to college and attended a trade school and others just didn't go to college at all. I am not really aware of how they turned out because the few friends I do have are from my college days so that was after that.

I remember in the beginning of life being frustrated especially with my speech mostly and even shutting down and not speaking at all because it was so hard for me. You would think it wouldn't bother me at all because I don't hear it at all, but it really does. There is this inner sense that I know the sound that comes out of me is just awful. It is not my fault, I know that because I have never heard sound before, but it is still difficult for me.

I worked my whole life to achieve what I have today. I am not sure if it was harder than the next person or not because of not having one of my senses. I know each person has some sort of limitation. No one is perfect. Each person has to work hard at anything to achieve success at it. Even these people who were born with a silver platter in front of them like the Kardashians. They worked hard to start the fashion business and to make it the success it is. Yes they had the financial support behind them that made it easier for them, but still the business part of it was hard work I bet.

But the world already gave us clean air and water, though. It's our responsibility to keep it that way. And it's our responsibility to educate each other and take care of each other when we're sick. The world doesn't owe us those things, those are our responsibilities.

in my opinion.

You are correct and that is what education does when they educate certain people on the knowledge of certain subjects so others should listen to those experts who are using the knowledge they accumulated over many years of education. Does that happen? Unfortunately it does not.

It is like if I wanted to educate people on Accounting because that is what I studied. That would be fine for me to do and if people wanted to listen they could. I however should be spouting off about medicine or law, politics though because I don't know that.

Unfortunately, many people feel they are experts in all fields and try to make that known.

I spout off on that stuff :p, but I never call myself an expert 😇. So I guess I'm doing better than some ;).

People have opinions on things and that is different. It is when they start expressing views like they are facts and they are not anywhere near educated on the subject other than this "worldly educated attitude" or Google Search Educate mentality that is something entirely different than just having an opinion on the subject.
