What to get them for gifts

With the holidays ahead and Black Friday almost upon us, it's still hard to think of things to get for people who seem to have everything. Think of gifts that you have received (including the ones that you purchased for yourself) and share some suggestions here. How about 4 categories: Under $20, Under $50, Under $100 and Under $200. Feel free to comment on just one or two categories or all. Any good ideas? :dunno:

We, and the adult kids/grandkids have pretty much everything we need, so gift giving can be a challenge. The past few years, we've settled into a routine that works pretty well. We all get together at Thanksgiving, and toss our names into a bowl, with a description of something we would like. Then we all draw one name, and go from there. We usually put a $50 limit on the gift, and that way everyone gets something they deem worthwhile, and no one strains their budgets. The little kids wind up with a full carload of toys, etc., and we splurge a bit on them.

Little ones are easy, it's the adults that can be a challenge. I am urging suggestions right now and haven't gotten any replies of yet--I try to get out before the rush but looks like I'm not going to make it. Rather get things they want or need. If I am going to decide then they will just have to be happy with what I pick out!

It really depends on the people.

Tickets can work in all of the categories listed for couples and families, the low end can be a couple of movie tickets, a family pass to the zoo and the high end can be a concert, theater, etc...

Good luck!

In the family now we only gift the wee ones and our own children. I think an ideal gift is a well thought out gift card from a catalog or website that matches the person's interests.

As it is just Rick and I, no kids or grandkids, we do not do any of the traditional gift exchanging. During the year, if we need something special, we just get it. Since December also contains our Anniversary, we do gift ourselves a nice dinner out,

Something fun that best buddy has always done is a goodie bag or box. For young kids it can be themed or just a small collection of gee whiz toys. A teen girl and it might be a sectioned jewelry box with pretty but inexpensive pieces. For me he knows I love cats, dogs, and books and collect bracelets. He might get a bag and add a dog bracelet, a cat tshirt, and a gift card to Barnes and Noble with a funny handwritten card...perfect!

I'd say for under $50, you can get a nice hard cover book with photos, sayings, something pleasant to read or browse through that can set on the coffee table. You can get a small lighted salt lamp, which comes in different shapes and sizes. Maybe a natural oil diffuser to be used with various scented oils in their homes or bedrooms.

It's about knowing the person or advice from those close to them. Best buddie's partner might like a Bob Dylan coffee table book. My brother The Beatles. Me and The Band...that's it you know the group that will please them.

For older (retired) family members who seem hard to buy for I just started buying them toys. I gave my Brother-in-Law a little remote controlled helicopter ($20.00 or so..) He was playing with it in the front room and having a ball. Gave my older Sister a "Tickle Me Elmo," that worked out also.

I think we still all have a little kid somewhere inside of us ..

This has been suggested and that is, give a gift card from a store that you know they enjoy shopping at. Females especially usually like this sort of gift. I would rather receive that than get something that I can't use and it just set around.
