What TV shows, old or new, have you particularly loved?

A few.

Seinfeld is amazing.

Are You Being Served. A very different show, very 70's.

Rock Follies. A theatrical show that was faintly ridiculous even when it first released in 76/77 when punk was happening. It's great.

The Avengers.

Absolutely Fabulous.

Monty Python
.

(A lot of the above already listed),
plus:
Little House on The Prairie
The Waltons
Mountain Men
Bat Masterson
Big Valley
Billly The Kid
Branded
The Cisco Kid
Fury
High Chaparral
Restless Gun
Wells Fargo
The Virginian
Six Million Dollar Man
Incredible Hulk

Oh, and Whirlybirds, which was about a pair of blokes who flew Bell 47 helicopters.
Thanks for the memory! My son loved that! My brother got him some sort of toy for Christmas that was a rescue helicopter on a line you controlled while it picked up tiny people or supplies. Very hard to work but fun.

James Garner later played a modern day detective, which I didn't get interested in because to me, he was miscast. He was Bret Maverick from the old west. Why do I accept actors playing different roles, but not James Garner? Once again, probably an age thing.
I loved "Maverick", and probably saw every episode. But I also liked most of "The Rockford Files", especially the ones with Stuart Margolin ("Angel") in them. I will say that the Rockford series aged very poorly. Garner was a real natural for comedy.

Other than those shows, I also liked all the old westerns that we imported from the USA. Ones that stand out were the Mavericks, of which there were several I recall. Apart from Bret, there was also Beau (played by Roger Moore) and I think Bart, but I can't remember who played him. I enjoyed the gentle humour of the series as well as the gun play.
...
That was Jack Kelly. Surprisingly Kelly played in more episodes than did James Garner because Garner left the show in 1960, and Bart carried on as the star.

"I Love Lucy" may be the greatest sitcom of all time. I never missed a show, and most of the American audience didn't either. It may have been similar in the U.K. The entire run of the series had a phenomenal average Neilsen rating of 67.3, which meant that on average, 67% of Americans with a TV watched each episode the series, which is the all time record. Some episodes were much higher. In comparison today, if any show gets 1% of the audience, it's a smash hit!
