What was it that convinced you that you were "middles aged" anymore?

What was it that convinced you that you were "middles aged" anymore?

For me, it was finding out I wasn't physically strong as I used to be. Just recently, I got another jolt. In my drive way was a flat tire. No problem, I've changed many a flat. I was not strong enough to get even one lug nut off. My insurance company sent over a young guy. Even he had trouble getting them off. Some idiot with a power drill way over tightened them. But still, no way I could have done it.

If I had a flat tire in my driveway, I'd call AAA. However, thirty or so years ago, I got one in a remote part of the Navajo reservation near Monument Valley. I had the same problem. I was only in my forties, but I didn't perform manual labor nor go to gyms. I never have.

This was before the days of cell phones or satellite phones. However, there were various items of junk in the area apart from what looked like the bottom of a liquor bottle that was buried in my tire. My late wife found a length of pipe which we slipped over the end f the lug wrench. Bereft of manual skills, we nonetheless knew something about Newtonian physics: a solid liberal arts background comes in handy on some unusual occasions.

When we returned home, we purchased long breaker bars, should the occasion ever arise again. We also made sure that mechanics backed off the lug nuts after putting them on with their trusty impact wrenches.

This affair didn't make us feel older in any way. The subject never arose.

When I began to compromise regarding aches and pains because I always have them somewhere but remember longingly when I didn't. I don't shovel snow well anymore and I feel the cold terribly. Time to move South. LoL.

When I noticed my hair was starting to turn gray in my mid 30's .It happened to my maternal grandmother too Sue

My hair started going gray when I was in my 20s. I used to get razzed by my Navy shipmates.
