What was the coolest place you have visited?

The Mark Twain House and Museum in Hartford, Connecticut, was the home of Samuel Langhorne Clemens (Mark Twain) and his family from 1874 to 1891. The Clemens family had it designed by Edward Tuckerman Potter and built in the American High Gothic style. Clemens biographer Justin Kaplan has called it "part steamboat, part medieval fortress and part cuckoo clock."

You get a tour by college students who regale you with anecdotes for every home in the house.

Life in the 1800s was hard. He lost his first child at 22 months. His next child died at age 24. His 3rd child survived to be 88. And his youngest died at age 29. His wife died at age 58.
He of course lived to be 75 having been born and later dying with the appearance of Haley's Comet.

I just finished watching the Ken Burns made for TV documentary called Mark Twain. Very touching and it honors his legacy and work. Offers a lot of quotes from his writings.

I was stationed in Spain for 2 years, near the southern tip. Short drive to Gibraltar and the Morocco car ferry. Must have visited Morocco eight or 10 times, Tangier but not Agadir. Fascinating place, loved the Souks. Even had camel meatballs for dinner. (-8
 
Would have to say my grandfathers hunting cabin on Elm lake NY near the Canadian border.... many great trips there, but once ice fishing it got down to nearly -30... -60 windchill....

Never been to Disney, but seen a bunch of there shows
 
When in Australia, my wife and I drove along the Great Ocean Highway between Sydney and Melbourne. About half way along we saw a little place to rent. We stopped and spent some good time there. It was run by a hippy lady. She bred miniature ponies from Shetland. Since it was half way between the two cities it had the effect of having a private beach too. That was so cool!

Sounds like you just came upon it unexpectedly. Some of my best memories of trips with my wife happened just that way, while some of the big events weren't as great as we hoped they would be.
 
I have a fairly long list, but I'll list two, and they were each cool in their own way:

The Ruins of Pompeii- taking a guided tour, touring the remains, hearing about the history and how the people used to live
Costa Rican Rain Forest- just stunning. We hiked and took an aerial tram where we could view all the beauty. Just the smell of the air was invigorating.

Out of the big cities, Venice is truly magic. London, Paris, Rome, Athens, Buenos Aires, Sydney, Dubrovnik, St. Petersburg (when we could visit) and Copenhagen are all great as well but Venice stands out for its topography.
 
My list was long, too, to other really cool places, but the stars just topped it all and I can do it whenever at little expense.
Don't have the flat coat, Buddy anymore though, so I guess I should perhaps find a new dog.
