So far this summer? Heat indices, or real feel as it's referred to count. I'm in northern Jersey and ours heat index was 105 one day last week. I started to go to the post office, which is in walking distance and that changed my mind.

Hottest temperature ever recorded: 106 F, Danbury, southwestern Connecticut, 7/15/1995.
Temperatures reach 100° F or higher only rarely. While most of the long-term weather observing sites across the State have recorded temperatures this high, it is only an occasional summer that 100° F or higher occurs generally over Connecticut.

Heat index yesterday was something like 105. It felt like it.

We were at Hoover Dam years ago when the temperature display on the visitor center was showing 114. The lady in there said that it had been 118 a couple of days before. Of course, it's *dry* heat, as they like to tell you.

In Detroit, we used to get a week-long heat spell about every June where the temp would hit 105 daily. People would be dying right and left because so few people had air conditioning, the old folks especially as they wouldn't open their windows and wouldn't run their fans to save on electricity costs. The city would open shelters for them to come and sleep comfortably.

Here, it's run from your air conditioned house to your air conditioned car to the air conditioned store.

Copied from here http://www.bom.gov.au/?ref=logo

46.6 equals about 116 f it was a dreadful summer and even usually efferent AC couldn’t keep up .
  • Heatwave events in December and January saw daytime temperatures reach the high-40s and numerous sites had their highest summer temperature on record, including 46.6 °C at the Bureau's official Adelaide city site at West Terrace
  • The national highest temperature of the summer, 49.5 °C at Port Augusta, occurred on 24 January
  • On 23 and 24 January, South Australia as a whole had its two hottest area-averaged days on record, with maximum temperatures of 45.67 °C and 45.69 °C respectively .

Forecast high (red line) and low (blue line) temperatures Wednesday to Tuesday, July 18 to 24
Even if Dallas-Ft. Worth doesn’t get its hottest temperature ever, it will be dangerous to those who are more sensitive to the heat. Those more easily affected by excessive heat, use caution the next several days.

OMG. Hope she has a generator.
No generator. Her power came back on at 9:00 pm. She went out in her car a few times to use the AC, to charge her phone and to get some ice cream!

She couldn't leave her place for long periods though because she has an elderly, crotchety cat who freaks out in the car and in other people's homes. She gave him ice packs to cuddle around.
