What a angel. Gave her cat ice packs to cuddle up to. ā¤ Generators can be total life savers at times like that or in the dead of winter here. In the spring we have a sump pump which goes on often. Thatā€™s the pump that goes off when the water around the foundation of your house raises to a certain level. Without that pump, our basement could flood. It hasnā€™t happened yet but we are prepared in case of power outage.

She is indeed an angel. She lives in a private community of individual houses and a fierce HOA.
Doubt she would be permitted to have a generator and wouldn't have room for one if it were allowed.

So far this year our heat index has hit 100F, or higher, every day for two weeks.

But the hottest I have ever seen here was 113F several years ago with a heat index of 117F. That was also the time when I warned my son and his wife that coming to visit during August was not a good idea. They flew in from Washington State and really suffered.

That kind of heat also drives home the simple fact that the majority of household air conditioners are simply not capable of dropping the temperature more than 30 degrees F. So if the outside temp is 113F, by late afternoon the inside of the house may be in the mid to upper 80's. Auto air conditioners also struggle. Put on your shorts baby.

I don't think I could stand a whole day without any AC in these temps. I'd probably just up and die. Heat this bad makes me feel very ill if I'm out in it -- kinda dizzy and nauseous and what my grandma used to call "swimmy headed." My swamp cooler doesn't really get it down to cool when it gets over 100, but does keep it down to where it is just sorta miserable, as opposed to deadly.

I'm considering going to join Henry who is lying in the wash of the swamp cooler right now.

We finally got rain and a cooler spell of weather. My friend gave me a kiddy pool (I'm not too proud to be seen in it!) and the birds get ice packs in their cage. I can't fathom some of these posted temperatures - I always look at the "feels like" temperature, and some of these temperatures actually feel like at least ten degrees hotter! Then, for someone to have their power cut off for so long - horrifying! I'm glad they used some creative problem solving. I decided to use my room air conditioner as a whole house one - running on max, it kept parts of the house down to 80 degrees. Some people are obviously far worse off. I guess that I will stop whining about Ohio!

Henry is neutered -- does that keep him from being swayed? I do note, however, that on a couple of occasions he has attempted to copulate with the couch.

Henry weighs about 75 pounds, is that big enough? He'd like you to know that he is a VERY good boy and will bring his own supply of poop bags.
