So far this year our heat index has hit 100F, or higher, every day for two weeks.
But the hottest I have ever seen here was 113F several years ago with a heat index of 117F. That was also the time when I warned my son and his wife that coming to visit during August was not a good idea. They flew in from Washington State and really suffered.
That kind of heat also drives home the simple fact that the majority of household air conditioners are simply not capable of dropping the temperature more than 30 degrees F. So if the outside temp is 113F, by late afternoon the inside of the house may be in the mid to upper 80's. Auto air conditioners also struggle. Put on your shorts baby.
