What Was the Last Movie You Watched?

These are the last ones I saw and enjoy:
Dark Winds
American Murder: Lacy Peterson
Wyatt Earp and the Cowboy War
Emily in Paris (some moments are quite funny)

Supernova (2000). Sci-fi/Horror.

James Spader, Lou Diamond Philips, Angela Bassett.

Not bad. I'm surprised by how many 1990s-2000s B movies I've never seen. Spacecraft drama/horror but not as reliant on jumpscares as so many others are.

Tubi, probably elsewhere too.

The Machine (2013).

Brits attempt to pervert AI into autonomous war machines. Encounter battles on three fronts: Chinese enemy, AI prosthetic enhanced injured soldiers, autonomous AI fighters.

The Roku Channel, Tubi, elsewhere.

We saw Reagan with Dennis Quaid at the theatre this weekend. Very enjoyable.

I didn't remember any anti Reagan sentiments from people back in the 80s. I guess people are going to protest republican presidents regardless of who they are. Those Reagan years were really good and I miss them.

Oblivion 2: Backlash (1996). George Takei, Julie Newmar, Isaac Hayes.

Hilarious sci-fi/western spoof, about halfway to Blazing Saddles schlock level. Incredibly bad acting and dumb story... intentionally I believe. :ROFLMAO: Almost as funny as the first one.

The Roku Channel, probably elsewhere. Hold out for the RiffTrax Edition, otherwise you'll be bored to tears.

The Deliverance, on Netflix.

I'm not even sure what I just watched, but I did not enjoy it. I feel the need to cleanse my intellectual palate by watching something else. Maybe Deliverance. ;) But nah, I think I want something a bit lighter.

The Age of Adaline 2015 rated 7.2 on IDMB
"A young woman, born at the turn of the 20th century, is rendered ageless after an accident.
After many solitary years, she meets a man who complicates the eternal life she has settled into."

I had seen this movie before but it had been awhile so I watched it again.
It's a very good movie, had me in tears a few times and was well worth seeing again.

Alien Romulus

It's an Alien movie, and this time it has plenty of them, unlike the last two movies we got from Ridley Scott. Do away with the engineers and make a movie about a group of workers trapped on a space ship being hunted down. YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

I enjoyed it. It's not thought provoking, groundbreaking, or socially conscious. It does what I want an Alien film to do.

I ❤️ this movie! I've seen it twice now, and am ready to watch it again.

Oh boy. Despite mediocre reviews I was expecting Trap (2024) to be an entertaining picture based chiefly on the reputation of director M. Night Shyamalan (Split; Glass). But als it was a real turkey. It gradually became poor enough that I began to wonder if it was a spoof. But it wasn't.

A man named Cooper (Josh Hartnett) and his daughter attend an arena rock concert. We soon learn that the entire venue has become surrounded by police, having heard that the contemporary serial killer, "The Butcher" is in the building. They let the viewer know pretty quick that it is Cooper who is The Butcher, so the rest of the film features how they try to catch him, his evasion, and a hint at a sequel.

Right off the bat one of the problems is that we are not shown why or how Cooper has become The Butcher. There are no flashbacks of his evil deeds. Hitchcock once said that whatever is not shown to the audience is completely lost on them. That's the case here.

Of course the other problem is that the story is utterly unbelievable. Add to that the poor dialogue, and one finds oneself sitting there wondering why one is watching the movie. There is some decent acting, but with the silly dialogue, the actors have tall orders to sound convincing.

If you're a big Shyamalan fan then you might get something out of this one. But if not, you were warned...

Doc's rating: 3/10
