What Was the Last Movie You Watched?

I watched The Surfer with Nicholas Cage on Stan last night.
The only reason I made it to the end is that it was filmed locally.

I just watched on Max the Mariska Hargitay documentary about her mother, Jayne Mansfield. It is so good. It helps if you love MH, which I do. A very well done and emotional treatment about a complex woman and family.
I've got that on my watch list, and am looking forward to it. Mansfield was/is a fascinating subject. When I first moved to this area in 2000 I went to the site of Mansfield's 1967 death at the Rigolets, which is just a few miles to the west of me between Mississippi and Louisiana. There's no plaque or marker of any kind, which I thought unusual.

She was riding with her attorney and a driver in the front seat, with her children asleep in the back seat. In the fog at high speed they ran into a slow moving trick, killing the 3 adults instantly. The children survived with minor injuries. That was a sad day.

Doctor shows have been around for almost as early as I can remember, and when they ran out of ideas, they came up with Doogie Howser. I lost interest after Doogie, although not because of Doogie. I just lost interest. But last week, I ran across the first season of The Pitt on MAX. I had to dole out the last 5 episodes when I realized season 2 won't start up until January. I seldom get jacked up about a series, especially a hospital series, but this one has my attention.

Unlike the others, they break with protocol a bit and keep the focus on the action. They don't wonder off so much into the personal lives of the main characters, and so far they haven't had to go looking for some amorous staff members having sex in the store room when they are needed in an emergency. There are some friendships developing, even friendships you hope will become deeper, but it has not reached the level where I want to shout at my TV, "Get a room, already."

Season 2 starts in 6 months.

I thought the Pitt was most excellent. In fact, l'd read the story of its genesis and got MAX just for the show. I was a huge fan of ER and if the Pitt had George Clooney it'd be perfect!

None of the characters in The Pitt are as perfect as George Clooney, but one the things I liked about the characters in The Pitt is they seem a little more real and ordinary. OK so I just started ER because one of MAX's "We think you'll like" enticements recommended ER, which happened during the time I drifted from Hospital series.

I'm only on Episode 5, but Marcy! So far, Clooney plays the part of a total womanizing jerk to every woman who has to work with him. Hopefully he will eventually get his life changing comeuppance, and stop caring about only himself. But I've known guys like that, and realistically, they never change. But it's fiction so who knows?

As a kid, I really loved Jayne Mansfield. So goofy. I was very shocked and sad at her death, and remember details to this day.
Many years ago Mansfield headlined in a play that made the rounds including in some smaller cities, and a friend and I went to her show in Spokane, Washington. I can't remember much about it, except that her leading man lost track of his lines, and some reader back stage got him back on script by calling out a sentence. Mansfield never missed a line, and she had a lot of them. She seemed well prepared.

I'm sure you will love it! [My Mom Jayne]
I did enjoy the documentary. I thought it was very well put together. It was a tad too tear-jerky for my taste, however the subject was the emotional connection between Mariska Hargitay, Jayne Mansfield and others, so I wasn't surprised that it was a two hankie picture...;)

I hadn't known much of anything about Mariska, so it was an unusual surprise to learn about her father. I'll avoid spoilers.

The documentary got my interest simply because of my fascination about Mansfield herself, and also about her husband Mickey Hargitay. I witnessed her entire film span and career. She was famous but also a curio. I hadn't realized that she probably could have become a competent serious actress in other circumstances, so I was impressed with the few serious clips they played. At any rate, but for the horrible accident, she could have been a star for many more years.

Oddly I've never seen anything that Mariska has been in, including the long running "Law & Order" series. Lovely woman, interesting history.

I get from what you said, and how you said it, "but Marcy!..." that you dislike Clooney's character and wonder how I could love him...? Or am I being paranoid? I shouldn't post spoilers, but I will say that he grows up a bit by the time he leaves the show, but I'd bet anything he remains a "womanizer." Still, he is so pretty to look at!

I like George Clooney. He's smart, talented, and I like the usual characters he plays. In personal interviews, he is carefully worded and thoughtful. I wouldn't even attempt to dismiss him or diss him. I just didn't like Dr. Ross. And it does take skill to act the part of a guy like that. I'm thinking in his more advanced career, he would have turned down that part. He looked younger than I can ever remember him. And yes, Dr. Ross has mellowed out a bit in whatever episode I'm now watching now.

Glad you feel that way about him. I have seen him even younger than Doug Ross, when he played a factory foreman on Roseanne. On the other end of the age spectrum, I recently watched the televised version of Goodnight and Good Luck.

I watched Last Voyage of the Demeter the other night. It had piqued my interest because I read Dracula earlier this year.

It was a little too gory/bloody for my taste (although I expected that, given the subject matter), but overall I enjoyed it.

Yes, the first one [M3GAN] was great but the trailers for the second one left me cold. I'm also waiting for the reviews to come out.
I went to see it today. It starts with a feeling that his is going to be good with some fun dark laughs during some frenzied bashing, and the premise has promise, but then the script falls apart. I was always wondering why are all these characters doing what they are doing, and when are they going to stop doing it. Things would get partially explained sometimes, which would leave me with a feeling of "So what?".

It felt like a 1950s musical where a very weak plot line served no purpose other than to draw together some songs that had a loose relationship to the story, except the plot here served to draw a bunch of choreographed fight scenes together. Maybe if I watched it a few more times with subtitles, I would have a better understanding. I stayed for the whole show, but felt like it could have used some better writing. The visuals were pretty good.

The first M3GAN moved along in an orderly and evolving story that built into something. This was mostly about fighting.

Audiences seemed to like it on Rotten Tomatoes, but the critics weren't that impressed.

Now I'm going to move on to Brad Pitt and F1. Maybe tomorrow. I'm usually satisfied with those, although I don't follow any professional racing, but the stories are usually fun, even if they usually use the same format.

The latest Jurassic World. Plot stupid and unoriginal but it was scary! Since I'm rarely in a movie theater, the experience was nice. New seats in the theater, recliners. Comfy. Popcorn good. My 7 year old grandson ate most of it! The dinosaurs looked real, except for the last one, who was some type of dino hybrid.

How many days had the park been reopened before the dinosaurs started their inevitable rampage?
