What Was the Last Movie You Watched?

Last night I wathed "The Ninth Gate" from 1999, staring Johnny Depp. It was ok - but just shows how these things have come on. It was pretty slow moving with very few special effects. I expected at least something - and the ending didn't resolve the story. I'd give it 4/10.

Not a film today, but a tearjerker tv series, "The Crown Season 6" first 4 episodes. Gawd awfully sad... Poor Diana and in particular her munchkins...

I watched a movie called The Road. It's about a post apocalyptic world that a father and son are trying to live through. You'd think it would be very depressing but in the end you see the resilience of mankind. It was a little disturbing but it makes you think.

The Road is pretty rough to watch.

Not a movie, but I liked the TV series "Jeremiah" where a plague has wiped out everyone from puberty upward. The children remaining struggle to carve a world out of what remains. There is also a mystery about the plague itself, and this is the thread through the series aside from the personal stories of the protagonists.

Skyline (Hulu). It was engaging but the end was whack. I think they ended that way to leave room for the sequel but according to one viewer, it seemed the sequel, Beyond Skyline, didn't really follow through on the events of the original. I haven't seen the sequel yet.

I thought Skyline was ok, but I liked "Battle Los Angeles" (2010, same year) better.

One that few seem to have seen in "Monsters" (2010).

Mostly a road movie. But remember the very beginning when you get to the end or you'll miss an important part of the story.

Creative small budget flick, not schlock.

Yes I saw this a couple of years ago. It is pretty good. I'm in the process of watching another invasion film called Battle Of Los Angeles. I could swear I started it on a no-ad platform, but can't find it now except for on Peacock, which has short ads. Wouldn't mind that except, I don't want to have to start the film over.

I just watched that one.

It was on a Roku channel called "Freebie TV" I believe. I had it confused with Amazon's "Freevee" service! Lots of ads though.
That's why I don't bother with Amazon's Freevee. I have a low tolerance for ads. I have Hulu Plus, so everything is ad free fo me there. I like Peacock because instead of 5 ads in a row, they only show 2 short ones. When pausing a show, the pause screen will feature an ad.

So did you think what you just watched was as good as Battle: Los Angeles?

Umm, no. I had so many questions afterward too. Very low budget, but it might have been saved with better editing. The old guy was just plain weird. Maybe he was an investor who wanted a big part?
Well, I haven't gotten that far yet, so I'll have to see what you mean when I do. In the same vein as those two movies, if you have Netflix, and haven't seen it already, I highly recommend that you watch Extinction. I watched it twice. Surprise ending! It stars Micael Pena who was also in Battle: Los Angeles. He's been in so much stuff.

After your recommendation I watched Extinction. Pretty good movie with an unexpected twist. I had a hard time in some of the scenes because it was so dark but that's okay.

Penguin Bloom
Samantha Bloom breaks her back in an accident and is paralysed from the chest down. A year later, her children bring home an injured magpie they have found. She cautiously approaches the magpie and begins to get acquainted with the new family member.

This is a real life feel good story that’s good for the entire family. The message it offered was wonderful. IMG_3126.jpeg

All four of our Chevy Chase Vacations films. Last one was Vegas Vacation...

I've discovered on a website that the total money the family won while in Las Vegas including the four vehicles Rusty Griswold as Nick Papagiorgio had won, came to $167,000 lol!

I enjoy Chevy Chase for years in many good films as he reminds me of my former brother-in-law. In looks they're two peas in a pod. Lol!

I'm glad you liked it Caroln. I like movies and shows with unexpected twists.

@dilettante I thought about watching the Sarah Connor chronicles, but passed on it. Maybe now I'll check it out. I recognized the Black man in the trailer as the actor who does a good job of playing the police captain on The Rookie.

He has a strong character arc here. He isn't just some background character. He was deep and in the end his role is quite important in this divergent branch of the Terminator franchise. I don't want to spoil anything, but this fork in the road differs a lot from where the movies went after T2.

"The Pilot." Plucked it from the $5 bin at Walmart. Survival story of a Soviet pilot shot down on a mission and his harrowing adventures evading capture by German forces whilst fending off a pack of wolves hot on his trail. Interspersed as well with partisan Soviet civilians and woven in a love affair. Great air combat images using seldom see WWII aircraft. One of my better $5 finds.

Language in German and Russian with English subtitles. If this is your kind of adventure flick, get one if you can find one. Guarantee you won't be disappointed.

So far, The New Haunted Mansion; currently the amazing film called The Help, the book was so much eye opening experience and well written; planned for tonight, The Butler.
