What Was the Last Movie You Watched?

Switched to Lady Gaga's concert on HBO. Divine. Simply divine. What a hard worker she is! Puts everything, ALL she had, into that marvelous show. She reminded me a bit of Madonna. Don't really care for Madonna, though I have great respect for her work and energy. I prefer my GaGa.

When I used to come to NYC to visit my mother, I would visit friends in the Village, Lower East Side. There were banners posted for her shows. She wasn't famous then, except among locals. Lady Gaga, I thought, what is she?

Pepper - you triggered off a moment there about NY city - when you visited your mother and friends in the village - have you ever seen this video of the late Katherine Hepburn being interviewed and entertained by the late Clive James at her ground floor apartment ? unit ? flat ? home in NY? a wonderfull story of retaining the past in a sky-scraper city and surrounded by them. Could you /would you do a posting on your impressions in more detail when you used to visit your mom and friends there? It would be quite amazing? Ta Dave

 

Damsel on Netflix is a worthwhile reimagining of the old “damsel endangered by a dragon” theme, but there are no valiant knights here…only knights that slew the dragon’s hatchlings years ago.

To keep the dragon’s rage at bay, the wealthy local aristocracy sacrifice a royal daughter of foreign kingdoms periodically, brought in under the ruse of a royal wedding with financial benefits to the poorer kingdom. The latest unknowing sacrifice, however, is a plucky lass who manages to not only survive, but turn the situation around…

The dragon (a female) is a magnificent, fire-breathing beast who speaks perfect English, and whose rage is understandable In light of the unspeakable wounds she has suffered in the butchery of her offspring. The truly wicked are brought to justice in this tale that combines a “Game of Thrones” setting with feminist empowerment… not a fairytale, but better…🐉

You'll have to get my impressions on things as they come to me, davey. I'm not so good at expressing myself nowadays. I've done so much talking & writing in my life, but that's not my life anymore.

I watched this for the second time a few days ago. It was very entertaining and I'll probably watch it again at some point before they get rid of it.
 
For the sixth time, "The Green Mile." I am no Tom Hanks fan by a long shot. He's not a great method actor, but the storyline is very good. I think it's a "Stephen King" screenplay and book.

I loved that movie @911 ! I can't remember how many times I have watched it but more than 3 times.
 
Technically the last was Life of Pi. But I was watching it and Argyle during the same time period. Argyle was cute, kind of campy at times and not what I expected at all. I was happy that they only used the F bomb once and surprised that it wasn't Samuel L. Jackson who said it ! Apparently it didn't get good reviews but his movie had a lot of unexpected twists that kept me interested. And then there's the cat.


Life of Pi was charming and heartwarming. I'd been wanting to see it since it came out in 2012. I think they could have shortened it a bit but I still enjoyed it. I loved the compelling eyes, face and demeanor of Irrfan Khan, the actor who played the adult Pi. When I looked him up on Wiki, sadly I found out he passed away too young at age 53 in 2020. :cry: I think the Suraj Sharma, young actor who played Pi at age 16 did an excellent job as well. The movie had clear religious overtones. It got very favorable reviews from critics and viewers. Well deserved IMO.

 
Enigma - yet again - one of my favs!! lovely WWII stuff and all those uniforms and dresses!! Mick Jagger was on the production team and loaned them his personal enigma machine??
 
There’s still a ten-year-old boy living inside me, so I enjoyed Godzilla Minus One, now playing on Netflix. Pity the poor Japanese…they’ve just gotten through WWII, and now Godzilla is trashing Tokyo! This film is a retro delight, trying to take the character back to his roots with modern special effects.

My only complaint is that the film is inflated, with too many character backstories, and not enough Godzilla. Still, when the big guy throws train cars and sizable boats across the city, you get your payoff. It worked for me, but I like monster epics, and Godzilla is King of the Monsters… 🙀

I’m a big Mothra fan, too! She was awesome in Godzilla: King of the Monsters, kinda the best supporting actress, and proving in that film that she can take Rodan in a fight! There’s almost a spiritual dimension to Mothra, too…

…and just look at the girl in the clip from Godzilla x. Kong below. She is just sublimely majestic and transcendental! This is a moth for the ages!

Heck, just drop me off on Monster Island…I’d die happy! 🙀

 
For some time I'm watching several of my DVDs of Tolstoy's "War and Peace" from the BBC version in 1972. Today I've watched the part which is on YouTube as "A Letter and Two Proposals".

Driveways (2019) with Brian Dennehy, Lucus Jaye and Hong Chau. Very good movie but may not be for everyone. Basically revolves around the Friendship that develops between a retiree and a nine year old. I found it touching and enjoyable. Don...
